i just got it done on Wednesday, so it's not done healing yet, but it is healing pretty well. i got it done by Roman at Tried n True Tattoo (http://www.triedntruetattoo.com) and it ended up taking about 3 hours. i paid him $250 but he put $100 of that towards the sleeve we're going to start on in early January.

alot of people have asked me: why Marilyn? the original answer was just because she's my idol..she knew what she wanted and what she wanted to be and she wasn't going to quit until she was happy, that's something i admire alot especially in a woman. but, i've realized and even greater meaning in this piece since i got it on Wednesday. for some reason, this particular piece reminds me alot of the late Robert Parker (RIP Grandpa) i got to know him really well in his last year here, and even before that he always had an inspirational quality. he liked Marilyn, i liked Marilyn. before i got the work done, her picture didn't really remind me of him. but after i got this done, something about it just reminded me alot of him. perhaps it is, as Neil said, his spirit was with me when i was having it done. i don't know, but whatever it was, it's proven itself to be one of those pieces with some extreme emotional attachments. Marilyn is tattooed over six scars that were the result of a person with a very negative influence on my life. her picture though, and the reminission it causes, reflects the positive influence my grandfather had on my life..so in a way it symbolizes the good influences in my life triumphing over the bad.

i'm so excited. i love what he did, his work looks better than the picture i took to him IMHO. and i can't wait for him to start on my sleeve and my chest piece!

I think it's beautiful! I love Marilyn as well, she was a larger size for today's standards of feminine pulchritude, but just look at her!

are you writing a message underneath marilyn? or is it just "unfinished" or like supposed to seem "stitched" onto your forearm...i'm referring to under her...are those more scars?

other than that...it was well done, good job on finding the right artist to do her for you - i'm sure the rest will turn out nicely

in the photo, she was weaing a fur coat, so the parts beneath her are actually going to end up looking like fur but because of where they are (in such a sensitive place) they're still kind of red and puffy from getting it done. she might be unfinished hah, my boyfriend suggested that i have something about my grandfather inscribed under her, and i'm thinking it sounds like a good suggestion i'm just not sure what to get though

Gorgeous! He did a fantastic job - you must be over the moon with it!

Now just follow those aftercare instructions to the letter and don't forget to slather it in sunscreen when it's healed.

I love it. Marilyn is an absolute legend.

I also really love your story, it's great how something so meaningful (the tattoo) can overpower, and cover up something bad in your life (the scars).

That's so damn cool!

This sounds weird but the makeup she is wearing looks nice too. Haha.

thank you all!

Shavwi, the outline didn't hurt AT ALL. neither did most of the colouring, it's a little uncomfortable because it feels like sticking a needle into a fresh cat scratch, but it doesn't really hurt. the only part that hurt was the colouring near the wrist because it's so sensitive and the hair hurt too when he was colouring it just because there's so many colours alot of them overlapped. but overall, the little pain that came with it was definately worth it!

mzcelaneous, i've loved Freddy since i was a wee little lass. like LOVED him hahaha i even have a Freddy movie poster above my bed (sounds creepy, huh? hahahaha)
