i just got it done on Wednesday, so it's not done healing yet, but it is healing pretty well. i got it done by Roman at Tried n True Tattoo (http://www.triedntruetattoo.com) and it ended up taking about 3 hours. i paid him $250 but he put $100 of that towards the sleeve we're going to start on in early January.
alot of people have asked me: why Marilyn? the original answer was just because she's my idol..she knew what she wanted and what she wanted to be and she wasn't going to quit until she was happy, that's something i admire alot especially in a woman. but, i've realized and even greater meaning in this piece since i got it on Wednesday. for some reason, this particular piece reminds me alot of the late Robert Parker (RIP Grandpa) i got to know him really well in his last year here, and even before that he always had an inspirational quality. he liked Marilyn, i liked Marilyn. before i got the work done, her picture didn't really remind me of him. but after i got this done, something about it just reminded me alot of him. perhaps it is, as Neil said, his spirit was with me when i was having it done. i don't know, but whatever it was, it's proven itself to be one of those pieces with some extreme emotional attachments. Marilyn is tattooed over six scars that were the result of a person with a very negative influence on my life. her picture though, and the reminission it causes, reflects the positive influence my grandfather had on my life..so in a way it symbolizes the good influences in my life triumphing over the bad.
i'm so excited. i love what he did, his work looks better than the picture i took to him IMHO. and i can't wait for him to start on my sleeve and my chest piece!
