My hair color crisisMY HAIR

My hair is dark brown and I want to dye it a medium red color but my mom is flipping out saying I'll have to bleach it first and she doesn't want my hair to be damaged. Is there any way I can get the color I want without bleaching it?

Unless you are putting a color on top, you will be lightening the hair to get the dye to hold fast to the strands. If you just want to do a color wash, you could do it without damaging the hair, but it isn't going to be a dramatic change and it won't be permanent.

honestly it all depends on your exact shade and what you want to go to. You can dye your hair two-three shades darker or lighter and it will show. But if its a drastic change meaning more than that range you will need to add some sort of bleach. If you do decide to bleach your hair just be mindful and educate yourself on a salon that has professionals which are great with coloring bleaching etc. Good Luck :)

You can bleach with little to no damage:

Get coconut oil and put the jar into a sink full of warm water. Put the oil all over your hair and leave it in for a hour. Longer is better. Apply the bleach right over it. If you're a baby like me, you can also mix a little shampoo into the bleach too. The oil will make it lift quicker and you'll end up with little to no damage.

My hair was stained red and could not get it to fade with shampoo/vitamin c. I bleached it lightly every other week but nope! I tried coconut oil and left it in for 2.5 hrs. Bright red hair to a pinky blonde. VERY soft hair. It was crazy.

I've also used this method on others and came out nicely!

You can use this for bleaching AND box dyes. Just make sure you do not dye your hair right after because you'll want the oil to be fully removed with shampoo.

You can also wrap your hair up and sleep in the oil.. reapply it right before you bleach too.
