Okay, so I took my mom to MAC to get her a Blitz and Glitz fluidline and a 266 brush last week, and she love love looooves the fluidline. This wonderful woman who is my mother has only worn mascara and chapstick her entire life, just recently venturing into the world of L'Oreal eyeliner, but she doesn't like the smearing.
She decided she'd be more comfortable with a fine-tipped brush, so we went back to MAC. She bought her brush, and I was picking out a lipstick for B2M (I got Craving--WOW WOW WOW perfect berry red for fair skinned girls--I LOOOOOVE IT).
As I'm doing the whole sanitizing, wiping, testing lipsticks thing, my mom is walking around going "Al, what's this?" "Pro long wear lipstick--here's some tester lip brushes, use these." She tries it on, it looks AWESOME, so she gets it.
Thirty seconds later:
"What's this for?" "That's bronzer, mom." "Do I need it?" "Enh...you're pretty tan."
Thirty seconds later:
"What's this? Bronzer, too?" "No, that's blush." My MA hands her a blush brush and I put it on for her--it looks really good. So she gets Sunbasque and a travel 129 because she liked how it was shorter and had a little case.
Thirty seconds later:
"Allison, what's that eyebrow pencil you use?" (meanwhile, I'm still TRYING to pick out a lipstick but can't quite stay focused) I signal my MA to help her with the automatic eyebrow pencils, and the sweetheart MA Tina fills one in and my mom's like "Woooooow." (Napoleon Dynamite style) She buys an eyebrow pencil.
The girls were sooo helpful so my mom just kept adding to her haul. It's really rare that my mom doesn't feel insecure at makeup and salon-type places so she's usually really quiet and doesn't ask for help and leaves without getting what she wanted in the first place, but she was like a kid in a candy store today, pardon the over-used expression. The whole way out of Macy's, my mom's going, "Look at me wearing lipstick, look at me! I'm so New York!" (she's going there for the first time in a week) I LOVE my mom. She's adorable. And she bought me a replacement Lingering eyebrow pencil. Yay.
