My package was missing something important...

Has this happened to any of you??

I live in LA and my friend Michelle lives in VA. Whenever we go to a CCO we try to find things the other is looking for. Well, she managed to find one of those Antiquitease Finery lip sets I had been looking for in coral (the one with the little white/silver coin purse...comes with a lipglass and 2 lipsticks) and she got it for me. I got my package from her today and low and behold...the box the set comes in was there but NO SET!! She had also sent me Almondine from the new SCF collection b/c I couldn't find it anywhere here and that was in the mailer but that was it! I texted her to tell her about it thinking possibly she had taken it out of the box to look at it and just forgot to put it back in when she mailed it out but she said that it was all there when she mailed it. She sealed the mailer up with like 3 strips of packing tape on top of each other and I took pics to show her what the contents were when I got it and what the mailer looked like. There was a piece of USPS packing tape on the very top of the mailer that said "received in damaged condition" on it and she said she knows it wasn't like that when she dropped it off.

I find it very hard to believe that the stuff just "fell" out of the mailer, especially after all the tape she put on it. If anything, I would've expected the Almondine to be missing since it's the lighter of the 2. The box the Antiquitease set comes in was there, a little battered, but it still had the bubble wrap and the cardboard insert with the information on of what comes in the set.

Michelle is trying to see if she can file a claim through the PO since I paid her already for the item and so far we haven't heard back. Has this happened to anyone and what did you do about it?

Thanks!

This just happened to another member. She mailed a package with two full size pigments in the boxes inside of a mailer and the mailer showed up - taped up, with the note she wrote to the buyer, but absolutely nothing inside with the same message on it - ""received in damaged condition"".

Seems there's a nice amount of postal theft going on. I don't think you can do anything unless the sender has bought insurance. Somewhere en route, someone opened the package and took your items. I doubt they'll ever be found. Some will cover up to $100 if you file a claim. You might be able to leave a complaint regardless, but most people lose out on their money, shipping AND the product. I've had it happen to me twice and they couldn't do anything about it "because I didn't buy insurance".

I'm Michelle Erin's friend. I did triple tape the padded mailer. And what I find very obvious it was stolen was there was no evidence of "damage" as they say on the damn tape. The mailer isnt damaged, ripped, torn..NOTHING and also there is no residue from any l/g or l/s having leaked or been damaged in the box it came in, the bubble wrap that's till in the box or the mailer itself! They told me that I would most likely get the money for the cost of the item. I still have the receipt from both the Post office and the CCO. They said they'd call me within two days. From now on I'm wrapping anything I ship in extra tape and getting insurance. It's just wrong that someone stole it and be so obvious! I wonder if the have x-ray machines to tell what's in the packages. Otherwise do they just randomly open packages to steal stuff? Somehow they know there's something in there worthwhile taking!

this is exactly why I don't ship anything through the post office. and they wonder why they're losing money???? I'd much rather pay the extra money for ups or fed-ex then to get items stolen... you just can't trust the post office. I'm in college and about 2 years ago my mom sent me a care package. like a 10 lb box with goodies and some things I had forgotten and the OC on dvd. the post office "lost" the whole damn thing. A 10 LB BOX!!! How does that even happen??? we never got it recovered or were reimbursed for the lost items. the post office was able to track the last location of the package and it just disappeared after that. they said there was nothing they could do. go figure. haha

hopefully you'll get your money back. and i'm sorry this happened. it's really shitty.

I actually heard of this happening to another person, not sure if it was here or on LJ, or what the contents were, but I recall that the individual basically got an empty mailer. I've also heard of this happening with like UPS packages, where the box is on the doorstep but someone has removed the contents. I wonder...if these packages are going through the same facilities? I know its unlikely, as there are 1000s of p.o.'s through out the country, but who knows...it's so damn shady!

I will be requiring insurance on anything I send from here on out.

This happened to my Mom a couple weeks ago. She ordered some Chanel glasses, UPS was supposed to get a signature for the package but they just left it by the front door. When she opened the box she saw the pouch outside of the actual box where the glasses were then when she opened the box, the glasses weren't there! They had opened the box & taken them out of the pouch and taped the box back up. When my Mom called Chanel, they didn't believe her!

She knows it was someone at UPS because she saw the truck driving away right after he left it.

She's fighting them on it now, she said she's not letting $300 go just like that.

This is very sad. I was thinking about this the other day, we put a LOT of trust in the post office & in couriers. I'm sorry this has happened

It happens at FedEx too unfortunately. My b/f has worked there for 12 yrs and someone at one point was stealing Ipods and then another time cell phones. FedEx has their own sort facility so it's not the same as the PO and the same goes for UPS I believe. At some point someone isnt being watched and this stuff is being done. I think it's awful that people do this stuff. I know they wouldnt like it if it happened to them. I thought about contacting the local news station and telling them about it and then maybe they could do some research and see just how common this is!

You're right....the post office wonders why they are losing money??!!

I always send my packages (at least in the US) with Delivery Confirmation. I haven't had a problem yet. *knocks on wood* I wonder if that is a deterrent.

At any rate, that totally sucks. DH and I had our credit cards stolen out of our mail, en route, so it wasn't even out of our mailbox. Fortunately we got that all sorted out, and aren't on the hook for anything. People suck. They need to get a job and buy their own stuff instead of swiping someone else's.

It doesn't matter if the person has a job or not. They will do it either way.

I forgot to update this so here's what happened after I started this thread...

About 2 days later, I was walking into my kitchen to grab something out of the pantry and I happened to look over at the sofa table we use for our mail. I glanced over and saw some stuff wrapped up in plastic on my pile of mail. I literally did a double take! I walked over and it was all of the stuff from my coral lip set still in it's original plastic, wrapped together with a rubber band! I asked my Dad later that day if he found it in the house someplace or if it was in the mailbox and he said it was in the mailbox. There was no note or anything attached and thankfully all the pieces were there. My friend Michelle told me that she spoke to someone at my post office and they told her that they remembered seeing the white box with the gold design on it and when she saw the items later, she knew they went with the box and they got sent to me. I still find that really strange and part of me believes that the only reason I got it back was b/c she had filed a complaint about it being missing. Maybe it really was just a mess up but I still feel like it was fishy somehow. Now I have TWO of the same set b/c someone did a CP for me after I thought the first set was missing so I have to try and sell the 2nd one!!

glad you got your stuff but man theft sucks - there really should be someone at the Post Office who gives a crap and tries to find the thieves - and then prosecutes them for theft... SHOCKING!!
