Hi,

Can anyone advise if these are genuine? Please enlighten as I do not remember there was a MAC pigment called BLUE?

I'm unable to view the links as it shows something about protocol.

There is a pigment called blue (original), and I believed that it was discontinued. I do know there was also a blue pigment that was released with the Rebelrock Collection. They both have a slight different color tone when swatched though.

http://mac.larahill.com/codes.htm - going by the EL codes, that pigment is going to be produced three years from now.

A = first production run of the month
0 = doesn't exist in the production codes, months run 1-9, A, B, C.
9 = signifies year of production, either 1999 or 2009. Production codes switched over to the three digit/letter system in 2000, so that's 2009.

Can someone confirm this, please? I'm a little rusty.

Completely correct Lara - A09 doesn't exist as a product batch code and never will. 2009 is also correct.

The first file attached is real, the second is fake (the Yahoo auction) - there are problems with the box and the jar on the fake as well as the batch code.

Was thinking of getting a blue-toned pigment for my sis when I came across those.

I don't know about the original blue, but the blue that I have (which came from a MAC store and I think is from the rebelrock collection) has the code AB3

MAC only switched over to 3 digit production identification system in, I think, late 1999 or early 2000. Anything prior to that was under a different identification system.

that would make sense though, cos in the uk when things are released, the dates are at least 3-4 months behind.... making it late 1999.

First production batch of October 2000.

I haven't yet seen a three character batch code that ends in 9 that's genuine. My own feeling is that the first production using the new batch codes was in 2000.

It will be interesting to see what happens when batch 2010 happens - I suspect the year code will change to A rather than reverting back to zero.
