need help with skin redness

My skin gets very dry in the winter and I often look pink with red patches on my skin when I wake up. I actually don't use concealer on a regular basis but I think I need a good concealer to deal with this problem. Can you guys please tell me what to do to get rid of the redness? I'm not particular about the brand of concealer. I'm an NC30 or NW30 in MAC (cool toned, what ever that is in MAC foundation range). Thanks in advance

P.S. I did a search for this and didn't find anything but if there is a similar thread for this I do apologize.

Do you use a moisturizer twice daily? (Evening and morning) I know that is often important in keeping your skin moisturized and preventing it from getting red patches (which I assume are dry spots??) I have just started using MAC Select Coverup in NW25...I use a foundation in NC40...I didn't know what kind of concelear to use..I ended up waiting until I went to a MAC store to find out with swatches...If you are not near a MAC store, you could try having a MAC Chat with one of the artists online at maccosmetics.com They do their best you match you up with the products that would be good for your skin tone. Oh, I have also recently bought a 190 foundation brush that works perfectly for covering any red on my face (with the concelear)...So i would invest in a brush too IMO (Possibly concelear brush 194 if not the 190) as I find using my finger doesn't cover as good... Sorry for the big paragraph...lol..hope some of this helps!!

using aloe vera gel after i wash my face has helped my skin a great deal. the aloe gel cools the skin, hydrates it and closes the pores naturally. you can get this from any drugstore anywhere. but as far as concealer i have heard of people using a green corrector that is used to cancel out the redness on the skin. i know maybelline makes this product and it looks like a concealer stick.

Try Avene's thermal spring water after a shower in the morning or as soon as you wake up. I can't tell you how much this spray has helped reduced the redness on my face. Its meant to soothe sensitive skin...I highly recommend it.

Using a great moisturiser is the biggest help! I got to about 20 before I realised I needed to start using some sort of moisturiser as my eyelids were so dry! Esp. during the winter months the cold, central heating and bitter winds can take their toll on our skin sucking every ounce of moisture out!

Make sure you moisturise day and night, and use a gentle exfoliater to buff the dry patches and keep your skin glowing!

I have a natural reddish undertone to my facial skin - if you want to help conceal this source yourself a foundation with a yellow hue - it neutralises the red for a more even complexion! It's been the best advice I ever had when sourcing a foundation!

I do moisturize but in the morning only. I'm gonna do night and day from now on. I will try green concealer as well

This sounds weird, but try washing your face with powdered whole milk.. just make a paste with a bit of water and use it as you would any other face wash. It's all natural (obviously) and the lipids in the milk are actually soothing and help calm redness... also, try moisturizing with pure jojoba oil (at night) as it is the closest thing to your skin's natural sebum and will help with dryness tremendously. You have to take care of what's underneath before even thinking of slapping on any concealer

That said, I really like Everyday Minerals' Mint concealer. It's a loose powder, and I just apply it before I use my EDM foundation.. it helps a lot. I recently got my eyebrows waxed and they were super red and irritated looking, even above where she cleaned them up a bit.. but the mint concealer did the trick!

You couldn't even tell..

Good luck with whatever you try though, skin issues can be so frustrating!

Sea Buckthorn Oil. Seriously. Just a little bit on the face, and in two weeks your redness will be a memory! I found it by Googling and ordered a small bottle on Amazon.

I use the Smashbox green primer and it really works great for me for cancelling out all my redness, and I just started using my 109 brush for foundation and I found it goes on really smooth and doesn't irritate my skin like the bristles in the other brushes

i second the avene thermal water. they also have a moisturizer called "redness relief soothing cream spf 25" that is tinted green & formulated for sensitive skin. i've also had a ton of good feedback on their "diroseal" cream, but unless you have rosacea i'd stick with the redness relief cream.

I changed my moisturizer from Clinique to Biotherm Aquasource moisturizer this summer and I really love it. My skin used to be red and dry in winter even I applied moisturizer twice a day.

I'm not sure which concealer is good for redness. I use Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer and MAC Studio Finish for under eyes and acne scars (I breakout occassionally).

For me, I tried moisturising but realised that it was the Irish in me that was making me look so red faced

personally, the murad redness regime skincare did wonders for me, but before that I relied on smashbox's green primer (when I could get hold of it in england!) or the rimmel recover primer in 003 (the green shade) x

Because of the change in weather, you probably need a heavier moisturizer than you use in the spring/summer. Normally I use Biore's Nourish lotion with SPF 15 morning and night. At night I also add some Garnier Nutritioniste Overnight Regenerating Lotion.

For concealer, maybe use a bit of MAC's Moistureblend Foundation.

I have super super pale skin and rosacea and the green primer from smashbox made no changes for me.

Tish1127 mentioned the green stick concealer and it's really good. It's from maybelline and it looks like a lipstick and is super creamy which is good. It comes in yellow (to cancel purple undereyes and veins), normal skin colours, peach (also for undereyes) and green. I use the green on my lower cheeks, above my eyebrows and around my nose where my rosacea is the worst.

Also, as mentioned above, moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

Make sure that the redness isn't caused by any of your products. When I switched toothpastes, I got red patches on my face. Also, I don't use foundation that is oil-free, as the oil helps my face from drying out.

moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
I use Neova during the day & in the winter I actually use shea butter, it's very thick but I love it.

before you put on any makeup moisturize, moisturize, moisturize, let it sit on your face until it's all soaked in. As the above stated, use a green concealer to cancel out the redness. I personally use MUFE.
Or try MAC concealer in the pot & use the mineral foundation over it or try BE.

I have very sensitive skin. When I was a teenager, i use to wash my face with actual oatmeal. Guess what??? It really works. I know it sounds gross. but after 1-2 weeks i saw dramatic difference in my skin.

Also, make sure you exfoliate 1-2x a week

Don't introduce to many products to your skin. You won't know what's aggrivating it.

If I were you, I would wash my face 2x a day w/ oatmeal (i know, i know)
as a toner use tea tree oil only on your problem areas
as stated above, aloe vera and/or shea butter as a night cream.
You can also try cetaphil for a day cream which is nice & thick & won't break the bank.
If your still having trouble with your skin you may have roseaca. I would goto the derm.
good luck & keep us all posted

I find that yellowish concealer as opposed to green concealer works better to conceal redness. I feel like green concealer makes my skin look really ashy, so you would definitely need to use foundation on top to neutralize the ashiness. This should come as no surprise...just think about how when you were a kid, and you mixed green and red paint together, and you got this nasty brown-grey blob. Not attractive.

A yellowish concealer helps to neutralize the redness while looking natural. The good part about this is that you don't necessarily have to neutralize the concealer. I always thought it was a little bit ridiculous to conceal over concealer anyhow.

From watching YouTube videos, pinkiecharm really likes Sally Hansen corrector in the All-Over Neutralizer colour. I want to try it out to conceal some redness myself.

Actually, it sounds pretty cool.. I sometimes wash my face with powdered milk (when I don't need to remove a lot of makeup) and it works amazingly, it softens my skin and calms it down, and seems to even out my skintone. I love using natural things! They're cheaper and I don't feel guilty putting them on my skin worrying about any mystery chemicals that I could have a reaction to.

Question -- when you say you wash your face with oatmeal, do you add it to your regular face wash, or just make a paste with water? and do you use the oats whole or maybe put it in a food processor first to get a finer grit? My skin is sensitive to harsh ingredients as well as harsh exfoliation so i have to be really careful.
