Hi there everyone I have a dilema and I need sorting out!!!.. I have had so many different opinions at the MAC counter and Im just after advise once and for all!!.. I am after a "finishing/setting" powder to go on after my foundation.. this is the problem

I purchased the mineralised skinfinish pressed powder in "medium plus", it is quite nice however after about half an hour my makeup or skin I should say looks slightly dewy.. I know alot of people love that look, I feel slightly oily with that look even though my skin is not at all oily!!!.. I prefer when the skin looks like its set and not look like your makeup is blended away (if that makes sense) lol.. these are the three options I have

1. mineralised skinfinish - have heard it does give a slight dewy finish, was also told its better used on the cheek area rather than all over???

2. MAC translucent in "invisible" or "Zero"..

3. MAC blot powder in NC30 ( i prefer my powders to be coloured)

4. MAC studio fix pressed

I want the skin to appear flawless and not cakey or chalky though.. just perfectly even and not at all dewy or like your makeup has come off.. I know this is detailed but I find my finishing powder is the key to the perfect finish.. Hope you guys can help!!!!!!... Jo

Are you sure of the colour of your Blot Powder? I think it only comes in Light, Medium etc. I'd try Blot in Medium Dark, if I were you.

Blot powder comes in light medium and dark, i really recommend this powder its excellent and doesn't go cakey after touch ups, if you like colour in your powder though try select sheer. Once you use the blot powder you realise you don't need colour in your powder if your foundation is the right colour x

Try MAC Blot Powder in Medium or the PRO Invisible Loose Color.

Aside from MAC for the perfect flawless finish, stop by Sephora and try Make Up For Ever's HD Loose Powder.

I was told the studio fix pressed gives a heavier coverage than say the sheer select?... and that the translucent in "invisible" isnt coloured just used for setting??.. I want a beigy compact (coloured) to set my foundation.. the MAC artist stated that sheer select can "disappear" into the skin (which I dont like).. any more opinions on the studio fix???.. thanx guys

Studio Fix is a powder foundation and therefore is a lot more pigmented than any setting powder. Setting powder by nature (even when pigmented) are always transparent they're supposed to be the ultimate step in your makeup and set foundation in concealer into one making it longer-wearing and makes you shine less.

Studio Fix to set foundation in my opinion is overkill, it's using foundation and a full coverage one at that to set another foundation, plus if you're acne-prone be ready to break out from the Studio Fix.

While people using Studio Fix to set liquid foundation is not unheard of, I personally think it's too much, it gives an unnatural look to your face and takes away all skin texture from your face, plus as the day progresses it starts moving or making any bit of flaky skin INCREDIBLY noticeable and cakey. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh but I hate the look of foundation set with Studio Fix.

Usually setting powder is supposed to disappear into your skin but enhancing it and perfecting it. If you like that kind of heavier finish then try Make Up For Ever's DUO MAT powder foundation and wear it on it's own with a good primer or moisturizer, SK-II's Signs Transform Foundation (cream to powder perfection) or Armani's Designer Sculpting Foundation.

ok, well I have established that the mineralised skinfinish is not for me.. I know the theory is have your skin look "natural" but honestly I like that airbrushed flawless non dewy/oilisish look to a makeup.. I just find that the skinfinish does not give me "enough" coverage.. so apart from say the "studio fix" over the top of your foundation, would the translucent powder by MAC be a better option???... I was only going to lightly dust the "studio fix" over not pack it on?.. I was told that applying say "belightful" to the cheeks area will "soften" the matte feel of "studio fix".. I just like the face to appear non dewy but the cheeks to glow... I know I sound fussy but I dont want to keep buying different powders.. my skin is not at all oily and I have no pimples or anything, very normal balanced skin, if anything a pinch of oil in the t-zone but nothing to overly noticable.. hope to hear back, Jo

dont use studio fix to set ur foundation coz studio fix is a foundation in itself and not a setting powder. i think u shud giv select sheer pressed powder a try.and if u want glowy cheeks u can go ahead wid msf natural on the cheeks.why not?
alternatively u can also use a highlighter for glowy cheeks (bobbi brown shimmer bricks/mac msf)
hth!
pm for any comments/questions

If you want a perfect flawless and matte complexion, I'd suggestion using a medium to full coverage foundation like Make Up For Ever's Mat Velvet and finish it with Super Matte Loose Powder (also from Make Up For Ever), these setting powders are pigmented and set foundation beautifully for that almost cinematic matte finish.

For your cheeks to glow you can use Beauty Powders, Mineralized Skinfinish, MAC Iridescent Pressed Powder, MUFE's Shine On, MUFE Star Powders or MAC Pigment like Vanilla.
