Needed: Serious eyebrow help

So I got into makeup a little over a year ago and shortly after realized I needed to do something with my brows. I started plucking stray hairs and then it escalated into filling them in, plucking them more... all of this started from a MUA who told me I already had a good eyebrow shape and just needed to pluck stray hairs.

Now I don't think that's true anymore. I've been struggling for months to fix my brows and I just hate them. I don't wear my hair back because I hate the way they look when I do. I fill them with eyeshadow right now, and started doing that because I didn't like pencil... but now I don't like that either. It doesn't look right.

I'm getting very frustrated as I look in the mirror and can't help but notice that they're uneven and just... not right. I can't explain it.. it's like some days they're too flat and other days, my arches don't match. So I'm putting myself out there and posting pics to get some help.

I would like to say that I hate overstylized brows -- I don't like the really penciled in, sharp arched ones. I think it looks bad.

Most recent pic that shows how I've been doing them... this is about a week old and I've plucked them a little thinner:

Another for good measure:

Excuse a few excess hairs -- hadn't plucked them in a few days.

I unfortunately don't have any photos without eyebrow makeup that aren't 2+ years old, i.e. prior to plucking anything. I naturally have very, very sparse brows... the hairs are nearly black but very spread out and faint. If I don't do anything, I look off.

Thanks in advance for any help -- I may end up going to a salon or something that does threading and get another opinion too.

Aw hun I have nothing to tell you im in the same boat as you. What I will tell you is that maybe you want to try a lighter shade than the one youre using it may look better =)

I think the shape is good, and the color shadow you're using is pretty good, too. Once you've applied the shadow, do you soften it? Try doing that with a brow comb to make it look more natural. Also, I agree on maybe letting your brows grow out, and then going back at them, or having them professionally done. Ardell makes a lash & brow enhancing gel, and I've been using that, and my brows seem to really be growing.

I think you should quit plucking them and see how they grow back in. Pluck any hairs that are obviously above or below where ur natural brow is but let ur own natural brow shape grow back in by leaving everywhere else alone. I think plucking works best when u only do that, don't try to reshape ur brows with tweezers, have a pro wax them for that. Try taking biotin to help them grow quicker too.

You could try using a clear mascara (i.e. "brow gel") to set your brows once you've filled them in. That helps tame the strays and sticks the brow down so it looks like the shape you've shaped it into.

I think your eyebrows look fine, however, I do agree with the recommendation to let them grow in & then have them professionally done; & if you like the new shape, then just keep up with plucking the new growth. If you don't like the way this particular person waxed them, then let them grow back in again & try another place. If you see someone with great brows ask them if they have them professionally waxed &, if so, where. Once you are happy, the key is to keep up on plucking the new growth so you don't lose the shape.

Thanks everyone!

Just to clarify -- when I said I started plucking them more, I meant that I started to pluck my own arch because I was shading them in completely flat and it looked awful. I realized it looked bad so I started removing few extra hairs underneath to give a stronger arch. I also have to pluck above my natural brow because I have random hairs that grow in there.

castor oil works really well to help hair growth! plus it's super cheap and you can get a huge bottle at walmart for under 3 bucks. i've mainly been using it on my eyelashes, and i've definitely seen improvement. i would imagine it'd be just as effective on brows. give it a go!
