A diffuser is used to concentrate air flow in a particular area. To get textured hair using a diffuser first add some mouse or a light gel and blow dry while scrunching the hair with your hands. It come out looking like beach hair.

The way I use it, I just kind of tilt my head to one side and hold the blowdryer vertically (so air is blowing toward the cieling) and do it that way and scrunch either WITH the spokes in the diffuser or with my hands. Occasionally I flip my head the other way to get it evenly dried. Works great for me, hth!

Dreamergirl3's technique is pretty much the same way. When you blow dry that way you get more volume.

I've seen Nick Arrojo on WNTW use the diffuser, he put the blowdryer close to the head and sort of swirled it around so the hair wrapped around the prongs. I've never used one so I have no idea, this is all I know!

I just got a new blow drier for xmas too, and like you, Ive never used a diffuser. So I did a little research, theres quite a few different types of diffusers, but it sounds like we both have one called a "finger" diffuser (the kind with lots of pointy stick things).

Ive used mine twice so far, using two different methods. For the record, my hair is somwhat wavy, but I usually straighten it every day. Its also quite fine and doesnt usually hold a curl at all. The first time I used it I tilted my head to the side so my hair hung down, and just kinda let my hair fall into the diffuser and wrap around the fingery things and held the dryer against my head for a few seconds. I did this section by section till my hair was dry. Through this whole process I left the dryer on, so it was kinda hard to get my hair properly sitting in the diffuser. My hair got wavy and curly, but overall it was pretty big and poodle-like.

The second time I did it (Today), I did the same process of hanging my head to the side and letting my hair fall into the diffuser and pressing it to my head, but only turned the dryer on once it was in position. I let it dry for a few seconds, turned the dryer off, and then moved it away from my head. I did this section by section (and turned the dryer off and on like 80 times) until I was done. My hair turned out great! I barley had any frizzies, my hair had definite curls/waves and I got a ton of compliments!

I hope this helps a little, and that it makes some sense! Good luck diffusing, and if you find another method let me know because Id love to hear other ways of doing it!

yep! I just hung my head to one side and scrunched my hair up in sections with the diffuser, then I did the same thing for the other side of my head, tilting it the other way. Good luck!

thats exactly what i do.also when your blowdrying ever once in awhile turn the blow dryer off, then scrunch with your hands and hairspray it.then go back to what you were doing it always works for me.i also turn my head over n make sure the diffuser is really close to my head with it off,and situate my hair in the diffuser, then turn it on.helps with the frizzies

thanks guys...so far i tried juSs tilting my head to the side and scrunching my hair with the diffuser, but it didnt turn out very good...im gonna keep trying out the other techniques you guys use...does it matter if your hair is short? mine hits right @ the shoulder with some layers...does that affect it in any way?
