ok so some of you might know i really struggled to find a job while im still at school and it was awful having zero money but eventually i have one
smiles.gif

i told them in the interview that during the holidays before school i would be willing to work up to 20 hours (means i have more money
tong.gif
and i do hardly anything during the hols anyway) then i got told my pay would be £4.25 (which was a bit urgh as thts hardly nothing)
i had my 2 days induction which i got paid for and then worked wednesday, saturday and sunday which bumped up my hours to 24.
this week i have worked 19 hours but noticed on the rota that my hours each week are slowly dwindling eventually going down to 9, i asked her why i wasnt working next saturday and she replied with my actual hours were only 9 (working thursday frm 5pm til 8pm then sunday 11am-5pm) which i wasnt told about and from the off expected to work thursday night, saturday and sunday as obviously saturday is the busiest day

so working 9 hours means i only get £38.25 a week which equals to £153 a month which is nothing as i am soon doing my driving test and need to buy a car after that and would never be able to afford one on the wage im on now
ssad.gif
like my friend gets £600 a month and saves £200 which i wouldnt be able to save what she does as i get like £40 less :|

i really need help on what to do as im so new to this whole job thing esp in a shop

any thoughts would be appreciated

How old are you?

What kind of expierence do you have (doesn't specifically have to be work related although it helps).

As in, can you type fast, are you profocient with programs on your PC like MSWord, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc. Do you have good grades in school. Have your ben a part of any clubs where you held a administrative position and had responsibilities. These go a long way to helping you build expierence when your just starting out.

What type of schedule are you availible to work. Since you say your still at school, what level, university? highschool? etc? Since a lot of the higher paying jobs (at least in the USA) are standard morning to afternoon work hours.

Sounds like your working for, "minimum wage."

If you need evening/afterschool work:

If your old enough maybe look into bartending, as with tips that can be fairly decent pay. If your not old enough to serve alcohol as a bartender, get a job at a restaraunt as a server.

Reason?

These jobs are going to pay "minimum wage" but you will also get tips. I
I'm not sure what type of job you applyed for, but it kinda sounds like a retail (shop) position of some sort. Those tend to be typical jobs for young girls. I worked a Wet Seal when i was yonger lol.

The problem with those jobs is they pay as little as possible, and unless your working on comission (usually not in my expierence unless its a department store), your not going to make much money. Not to mention they often require you to buy/model the new fashion lines, and the discount isn't really all that much when you have to spend money on clothing to work there. And they give bad hours on weekly notice, so you dont have a perm schedule of hours.

Serving is harder work, but if you have to work at a place for X amount of hours a week, might as well earn as much as possible.

hehe looks like i missed out loads of detail lol

im 17, 18 in february

ive worked in nurserys before which was good but with my last one it was total volunteer work and i didnt even get so much as a thank you when i left not that i wanted to be paid as it was volunteer but you know what i mean lol

it is for retail to be more specific a department store working in the designer shoe section

im not even sure of the whole uniform thing as i know the girls who work there every season they get told of a top they have to wear (plain black) and have that but im nt sure if the company pays for that or if its complusory to wear as most just wear black t shirts like me

i do get commision however its 2% of whatever you sell after the first £300 which is a bit rubbish as on a bad day (esp in sales) you can barely make even that

so really the only thing im annoyed about is that i get barely nothing in wage terms and never got told of the days i would work as i stated weekends and thursday night assuming it would be both saturday AND sunday. and after the holidays they get drastically reduced which means im obv gettin half of what i am now which again is rubbish

i was thinking of just applying at another store in a differnt mall as they can accomoadte to the hours i want however would they even want me as i have another job and sunday i cant work as due to my other job?

I dunno lol... I tipped when I was in Europe lol...

I think it's the right thing to do regardless of where you are. If someone gives you good service, they deserve a little extra on top. I also reserve the right not to tip if they do a bad job lol.

i also tipped while i was there and they were like " do... you need me to break that for you?" ..haha yes i also reserve the right to not tip if the service is terrible. My b.f on the other hand always tips no matter what.

" We didnt even get our food honey.. why are you tipping him?"

" well.. he tried"
