New to MAC and need some pigment recommendations.

What's a good shimmery, light-colored pigment? Something that is eye safe and would be good for someone with pale skin, dark brown hair and greenish eyes? I want something that really sparkles in the sun.

I got a $50 gift card to Dillards (that's where our MAC counter is) and I plan on spending it all at MAC. I've never bought anything from a makeup counter before so I'm really intimidated, especially since the MAC counter is always so busy.

I was also wondering if the MAC counters sell pigment samples. I only have $50 to spend and it would take a lifetime to use an entire pigment. Do you have to be buddy-buddy with one of the makeup artists to buy pigment samples? I wouldn't be asking for one of everything, just maybe 4 or 5 colors.

Oh, and how do you pronounce Metal-X? I thought it was just as it's written, but a friend of mine (who is a MAC addict) pronounces it "Metallics." I was planning on checking them out, but I don't want to look like a fool by mispronouncing it.

Thank you for any advice you have to offer!

Well, you pronounce Metal-X just as it is written.

As for the pigments, MAC doesn't sell samples. If you ask, they may give you a couple samples for free. The other thing is that MAC counters don't stock pigments as part of their permanent collection. You would find those at the MAC freestanding store. The pigments at the counter are either ones from a current Limited Editition collection, such as Originals, or pigments left over from recent past collections like Smoke Signals.

Darn (about not being able to get pigments at the counter). I'll have to get something else then. We do have a MAC store here so I'll check that out to get the pigment. I just won't be able to use the gift card, but that's okay.

Maybe I'll end up getting some lip glosses and some eye shadows.

Check out golden olive pigment. It's part of The Originals collection. Your Ladyship pigment (from the Antiquitease collection) is also very pretty.

I really recommend Sweet Sienna pigment! It's part of the Antiquitease collection. It's perfect for a smoky eye. =)

Or get the holiday pigment sets, if there's any left. They're tiny little vials and worth the price!

Thank you for all the recommendations everyone. I went to the MAC counter last night and they were out of the pigment sets from the holiday collection so I looked at eye shadows instead. I ended up buying a Metal-X eye shadow in Virgin Silver and a mineralize eye shadow in Family Silver.

I have some money left on my gift card so I might go back and get a lipgloss or another eye shadow. I also made a mental list of the other makeup counters at the store and will research those. Maybe I'll buy a lipgloss at one of the other counters since it's a Dillards card.

I checked out the product swatches here on Specktra (they are all very nice) and I think I may be buying a pigment in Frost. It's the one my MAC-loving friend showed me first and I fell in love with it then. I'll probably just buy it from the MAC website to save myself the trip to the freestanding store.

Thanks again, guys!
