Im pretty new to wearing colors on eyes, and using brushes. i mean, i knwo how to, i think, but am sort of afraid of diving in head first.

What colors should i start off with to be able to make a couple different looks. i have 2 sets of eyeshadows from the drug store that have 4 eyeshadows and they tell you where to put the colors (brow bone, crease, lid, outer corner) and i have them in goldish brown colors and greens. im thinking of getting MAC products as ive been wanting to for years but never knew where to start.

Brushes?!?!?! specifically for eyes. What do i get? MAC used to have like a "starter" set of eye brushes that came all together, but when i went on the site today, i didnt see it?

I have a Sephora so would they carry a eye brush set? I have literally no brushes and none that are of any type of good quality.

sorry for the long post, but ive been looking at all the tuts and am amazed at what you girls can do and would love to do it too!

As far as brushes go Sephora has nice quality. Not the tops of the top, but fairly nice consumer level products.
The colors you should start out with depend on your skintone. An MA can probably help you with that.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the "starter kit" that you saw is an LE promotion that only happens once a year.

MAC brushes are SO good! I just went to a MAC seminar and learned how important a good brush is. I started with the 213 for application and 224 for blending. 224 is a MAC bestseller anyway. As far as colors, from the sounds of your coloring, you can pull off a lot of different colors. Vex is a great anytime shadow you can wear alone or with other colors. Since you have a couple greens, go with a couple blues (the Naughty Nauticals collection has a great selection, but it's LE so hurry in!). Seriously, I would just pop into a MAC store or a counter and talk to one of the girls/guys there. They are so knowledgeable.

I like to look through the FOTD forum to see how different combinations look on others with my same coloring. Give it a shot, you will probably get some good ideas.
Sephora has decent brushes. I prefer the quality of the MAC brushes though. HTH

Wait for the Holiday collections to come out, they are always brush sets. Its a great way to start, to see how each brush works, and then you can decided to get full size. Personally, the full size ones are soo much better because they are hand made, but the brush sets are great when you need 2 of the same brush and don't want to buy another full size.

I'm also very new to my ahem Mac addiction [about 7 months into it]. I've never ever worn makeup until recently. I would say start with colors you feel most confortable with. i love neutrals, when i've done bright colors x days out of the week. like today xD I also love greens and blues. Always have on hand, products for a smokie eye. Smokie colors can be worn with any outfit and to anywhere.

i totally agree with MAC_diva about the brushes. start off with SE (special edition) brushes because you get a whole bunch for cheaper than if you bought them full sized separately. it's a great way to try them out without spending a whole bunch of money even though the SE sets are still a little expensive.

if you're going to sephora, i don't think they have MAC there, but there are a whole bunch of other brands. i think if you're thinking about getting high end eye shadows, a good eye primer is important too.

Yeah, my advice is pretty much the same. Go for a holiday collection (that's what I did) because they are a great introduction to the brushes. If you can't wait then definitely invest in the 239, 219 and either 222/224. Those are some really awesome brushes that I would miss the most!

Eye shadows-wise, I would definitely choose some colours you're comfortable with. Seeing as you have goldish browns and greens, then you might go for a neutral, a highlight colour and some blues but I think a colour like Cranberry will go really well with the colours you already have.

Some affordable yet excellent-quality brushes are Sonia Kashuk brushes which are available at Target. Try those if you don't feel like spending a fortune on brushes at Sephora or on MAC brushes (and imo the Sonia Kashuk ones are equal to Sephora/MAC ones!
