I've never known a M·A·C sale either. In a way their holiday collections (particularly brush sets) are very good value so could be considered an alternative to having a sale.

One important function of a sale for a retailer is to clear this season's stock to make way for next season's fashions. That obviously doesn't happen with M·A·C as they don't change their range every season. You can also get M·A·C at discount all year round at CCOs.

caffn8me what are ccos, do we have them in the uk? im so envious that people are still able to buy the skinfinishes from 'CCOs' when the sold out months ago here- and at discount. grrr

CCOs are Cosmetic Company Outlets. They are to be found all over the USA and stock end of line and overstock items from Estee Lauder brands. We don't quite have the same here in the UK. The nearest I have found is the Cosmetics Company Store in Bicester Village, Oxfordshire. I discovered that they had a few M·A·C items in there when I last visited but it's not worth a special trip unless you live very close to it as you probably won't find anything you want, so limited is the range.

I've never known any cosmetic counters to have sales, unless it was a GWP. In fact, I know the MAC counter by me had a sales goal of $10k (but I think they did closer to $15k), so I guess they don't need any help with sales on black friday lol

So sad, but true

I think the only way to get a discount on cosmetics is to actually WORK for that company or they store they have a counter in, or if you hold a pro discount membership of some sort.
For the rest of the world, that's probably why there's CCOs.

fragances and cosmetics dont go "on sale" :p people will pay full price for them as is, so why put them on sale?

if something does get discontinued, they send it over to another vendor to sell it at stores that sell old stuff, like marshalls, etc... or like estee lauder does, ccos.

I wish MAC did have gwp purchases though. Even if it was just one of the mini size items that you could buy with the temptations set it would be better than what we get now.

MAC was included in the 10% off all cosmetics during special discount days held recently at House of Fraser stores and Debenhams stores, (in the UK).

Of course, 10% off MAC in the UK still doesn't bring the prices down to normal US retail prices...!

Oh, and GWP=Gift With Purchase. The buy two items and get this gift free type offers that some makeup lines do.

Old rule of "Supply and Demand"

They don't need to have sales, their product is in high demand. GWP and Sales are a way of boosting sales.

I ONCE saw MAC selling their unsold holiday lip palettes ($40 instead of $42 I think)
in May or June at the Bay in Toronto (Yonge and Bloor). Not much of a sale but I guess they somehow got the okay to sell them since they were months old and not selling at all.
