This is probably a stupid question but in every pigment jar I get they always have that little clear covering over it.. Does that have a purpose? I'm guessing it's to make it stay fresh or something? What happens if you throw the plastic thing away? Because I've thrown some away..does it make a difference or what?

I think it helps keep the pigment in the jar and not all over the inner lid and rim.

I throw mine away too. It's so annoying to remove it everytime I want some pigment. I just use a little from the lid anyways. I always wondered what it was for myself.

I agree with Michie. I keep mine in there so the lid doesn't get it all over and the rim, because then it can get too messy. I just use the pigment off that thing each time I use it, too.

I store my pigments upside down so I can tell what is in each jar. I have a feeling that there would be a pigment explosion if that little piece of plastic wasn't there lol. Plus I like having that plastic piece to take pigment off of. That way my brush never actually touches the loose product.

I keep all my little plastic thingers in the jars to prevent the pigment from sliding into the threads of the cap. Plus, those caps kinda have a static charge, so I find it a little bit more difficult to swipe the product off of the cap. It's easier from the plastic doohickey.

Ya i do the same....i swipe the pigment off the clear plastic insert but i hate when i open the jar because i have to be ready to catch it! I think i'm going to glue them all into their lids!!!! Actually, i noticed that some of my new pigments i just bought, the insert is stuck to the lid but i'm sure it will fall out of place soon!

I keep mine, too because the pigment will wind up all over the place if I don't. Plus, I can just swipe the insert to load the brush with pigment.

Without it when you opened a new pigment it would be all over the place. It keeps it tamped down. I keep them in since I use it off that piece.

Yeah. I thought that was another reason it was there. When you close the jar with that piece intact, I'm sure it becomes almost airtight.
