Oily skin

I have a verrrry oily t-zone, even if I don't wear any makeup. I use body shop tea tree facial cleanser twice a day and a tea tree toner at least once a day, sometimes twice. I also exfoliate with the body shop tea tree exfoliate once a week. I use Cupcake face mask by Lush a few times a week too. My skin is just sooo oily and red! Which products actually make a difference?

I've heard a lot of good things about Milk of Magnesia for oily skin. I haven't tried it myself, but here's a bunch of reviews, good and bad, for it:

Makeupalley Reviews of Milk of Magnesia

It's really cheap, so it may be worth a try before you spend a bunch of money on other stuff.

For me, the one which made the long term difference (by which I mean you don't have to keep using it to see results) was Biore's warming face wash.

Have you tried the Coalface cleanser*LUSH*?...Also their Dark Angels Cleanser! ask for a sample if you have a Lush store near you...

I also use MAC's Oil Control lotion before my make-up and MAC Blot Film or Blot Powder through out the day.

Hope that helps!

I had horrifically oily skin and breakouts until I started using Lauder Sparkling Clean Mud Cleanser, and their Clear Difference Mattifying Lotion which moisturizers but helps absorb oil. I also use Clinique Ance Solutions Clarifying Lotion, but if acne isn't a problem Lauder's Sparkling Clean Toner works as well also. Both eliminate shine and control oil (they have the mattifying powder in them, so you have to shake the bottles well).

Foundation wise, I started off using Lauder's Double Matte to control the shine, but after the skincare got my oil problem under control I started using Lauder Double Wear Light or Arden Intervene.

I use a few other skin care products (Clinque Turn Around Concentrate, a mud mask, Lauder Idealist, etc), but those are the basic three that I think contributed most to helping me out... because otherwise I would be a red hot (and OILY) mess!

HTH!

I use Idealist at the moment and it seems to be making the oil worse. Thanks :) x

Yeah, I only use Idealist at night b/c it does seem to make me a bit shiny, and at first I wasn't using it, but my skin is much better now so I can use it now without fear LOL.

Hey hun, I've got crazy oily skin, too, and nothing I tried worked until I scaled back my skincare a bit...what I've started doing is washing my face at night, applying all my acne stuff, and spritzing myself with Fix + (because of my treatments, I can't put moisturizer on, it just balls up and looks gross) to keep my skin hydrated. Then in the morning I use an alcohol-free toner to clean my face and remove the residue from my treatments. I use a good moisturizer with SPF after that, and my skin has significantly improved.
Basically, your skin may be producing excess oil to make up for the moisture that your cleanser and toner are sucking out of it. You may want to try using the cleanser at night (make sure you get some moisture on your skin afterward, be it moisturizer, or Fix + or something), and the toner in the morning (make sure you moisturize after this too!). Give it about a week and see if your skin balances out a bit. My skin isn't completely oil-free, but since I've been doing this little routine, it's improved by leaps and bounds. HTH!!

Drinking lots of water also hydrates skin very well. Someone already mentioned it. The products you're using (esp. tea tree oil) are
drying out your skin causing it to produce even more oil.

I have very oily skin, too. I read "Don't Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without
Me" by Paula Bedoin (sp?) and changed all the products I use. My face has
stopped breaking out completely. I don't apply moisturizer before I put
my makeup on. I don't use toners anymore.

Sometimes I use Milk of Magnesia or Monistat Anti-Chaffing Gel as foundation primers. They help some. I also use MAC Blot Powder and MAC Transparent Finishing Powder and blot tissues. HTH.

Fix + is made by MAC, and it's described on their website as:

h_M6GX_216.gif
An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!

I tend to use it over makeup to help rid of any harsher powdery textures... just in case... it make me look more dewy.. I could definitely see where it provides some moisture to the skin.

^^Exactly. I was just using it to set my makeup too, but when I started using Retin A and a strong benzoyl peroxide, I noticed it was REALLY drying out my skin, and because putting moisturizer on after I use those made it ball up and get nasty, I tried the Fix +, figuring something was better than nothing. It worked out better than I thought! Plus, I think the vitamins and minerals in it has something to do with the improvements in my skin as well, since I'm putting it on at night, when your skin does its' best job at repairing itself.
