I was in the backyard cleaning the pool. I had the chlorine dispenser in my hand and when it slipped I tried to catch it.. as I quickly reached down to grab it, the fingernail on my thumb bent backwards halfway. I was in so much pain, I almost went numb and somehow managed to bend the nail back forward again (my finger was already getting bloody)

It's all bandaged up now.. i'm hoping it heals quickly..

has this happened to anyone else here? I'm never keeping my nails this long ever again

well two wks ago my entire nail came off my middle finger and it bled so much they had to put 3 tiny stitches in it to stop the bleeding...I had on sculpt nails so it broke and took my entire nail with it...and I cried like a 2 year old...Just running water on it was the most severe pain I have ever felt....But after about a week it was okay and bearable..I kept it protected and wrapped with gauze for the first 4-5 days so I wouldn't bump it. It's still slightly tender but the nail is growing back so it does not hurt

Let me add.....I am free of solar nails for a long time to come!!

Holy.. stitches and all? yeesh

I came close to tears but had to keep it together. It felt a little awkward crying while my 3-month old puppy just stared at me. I'm alone right now so I had to go out and run around the house like a crazy person looking for bandages

Thanks - I don't think we have neosporin but i'll try asking my mom to get me some on her way home from work.

I also read rinsing with hydrogen peroxide will help the wound. Unfortunately I don't think we have that either

Ya cause I have worn fake nails for YEARS and this never happened to me either.
YIKES.

The solar nails are SO much better than acrylic.

I constantly have nail accidents. I'm always waiting for the next incident to happen. I naturally let my nails grow longer Idk cause I like them that way but I don't do fake nails. The only problem is that my nails are strong enough to grow that long but too weak to not easily break.

Oh man I feel your pain. A few years ago my family was on vacation, and my older brother and I were goofing off in some lake made by a dam (can't remember which one) when he found a big rock. It probably weighed 20 pounds. He picked it up underwater and brought it over to me so I could see it. He thought I had grabbed it and let go, but I hadn't. It landed on my foot and ripped my big toe nail in half. They had to freeze my toe (four freaking needles!!!) and take the half that was mostly detached off. My nail bed is deformed now, and you can see a line running through that nail from where it happened. I was lucky though, if had happened out of the water I would have broken my foot, not just taken the toe nail off.

It will take a while for the nail to heal, but it won't hurt as bad as it does right now for more than a few days.

Oh man, I know what you must've felt

I've never done fake nails and I grow them long. Last year, I was trying to unbutton my jeans (well, I had to pee

) and OMG, the nail on my index finger half-broke and it started bleeding!
nope.gif
It was HORRIBLE! I couldn't friggin cry coz I was in my lame-ass office
ssad.gif
Can you imagine not being able to cry out!!
greengrin.gif
Thankfully, I had the presence of mind to keep it under running cold water and the bleeding stopped. Neosporin is sure gonna help though! It took two whole weeks for it to heal ... Get well soon

I can feel your pain. I hope you feel better soon.

I had an infection on my right middle finger 2 years ago. I was given local anesthetic and the doctor cut 3/4 of the nail off to get the pus out (gross, I know!!!). It was very painful. My finger was bandaged for more than a week and I had to go to the clinic to get the wound dressing changed everyday.

*shudders* It's funny how ppl always laugh an say "what? did you break a nail?" when it's one of the most painful thing to experience!!
Like stubbing your toe and having the nail rip off too. Argh...I feel your guys' pain...it sends chills down my spine when I think about it.
I hope you heal soon!

Ouch. These stories are making me cringe!

I thought the accident I had last week was bad. I reached into a top cupboard and a tin of baked beans fell right from the top on to my bare foot, right on to my big toe nail. I was doubled over in pain and I could see it straight away going black and swelling up
ssad.gif
it still hurts.

But that is nothing compared to some of these - wow I was lucky really!!

Hearing that was like nails on a chalk board for me. I hate when nails bend. *Cringe* I'm sorry for you. I hope that it heals fast.

I ripped off an acrylic nail once, it came off all the way down to the base but didn't totally rip off so I could lift it up like a little flap. It was sooooo painful. I kept trying to keep a nail on it but anytime it got bumped, the newly healing nail bed would rip again. Owww. It didn't heal until I cut it way down and kept it under a band-aid for at least a couple of months.

this happened to me a few months ago.. aghh it pains me just to think about it, i had acrylics on and i was putting on a pair of skinny jeans, i was pulling my foot through the opening and somehow i caught my middle finger nail and it wrenched backwards and broke halfway downl, but the acrylic was still on.. soo painful and it was pumping blood. it was fine after a few days though.. the nailbed is still messed up however
ssad.gif
i hope it will fix itself. hope you feel better soon!
