This is a skin problem so...

my earring-holes are going psycho. seriously, first they went all dry this summer and were flakey and itchy and sometimes they oozed plasma because i would slough off all the flakeys....

i thought it was just the change of water from school to home again....and it would wax and wane and stuff and wasnt all that annoying...

now i am back at school and they are still psycho and even more so...my right one is 10x worse than my left one...it is lymphing and is sore and red and getting crusties and it hurts to put earrings in whereas my left one is just the same as before only kinda more sore...

i dont know what it is...any help?

First of all, stop wearing earrings until they heal up. Your body is telling you that something isn't right, so stop irritating them with earrings.

Second, you might have a nickel allergy or be allergic to the material of your earrings. Try different materials like silver, gold, surgical steel, and steer away from the cheapo accessories stores kind.

Third, you need to disinfect your earlobes. What I find works well is alcohol swabs which you can buy at any pharmacy, or washing your ears in the shower with a neutral, clear soap (try Pears). Don't OVER clean them, but clean them once or twice a day as needed. Mainly stop touching them, it will only irritate.

I totally agree with MissChievous.

It took me a couple years to give in and admit that I have to wear either gold/silver earrings, otherwise it hurts to even touch my earlobes. DEFINITELY take them out and stop wearing any jewelry in them until you know whether it's an infection or your earrings are causing the irritation.

Wash them with alcohol! My mom used to do that with me when my ears would get infected when I was a kiddo.
If that doesn't work, then go see a piercer or derm.

Couldn't agree more, I know it can be pesky! I am running thorugh a bout of ear soreness as well. Bactine can be a great thing to have around when you are dealing with pesky piercings. I can only wear high quality surgical steel, silver and gold in my ears or they get sore in a matter of hours!

I have the same thing happen to me and I have sensitivity to nickel. So now I purchase nickel free earrings and I am fine.

Okay, important information that I forgot to mention....thanks for the responses but most of them don't apply...haha...

My earrings are 2ga Wooden plugs and I have had them for about a year...

I did some sea salt soaks and it cleared up a bit...I think I need to get some new plugs though anyways, this time I want bone or stone plugs though as I think I might be reacting to the wood...

As dumb as it sounds you might be allergic to the wood. Do you have any plant allergies (like ragweed, flowers, grasses)?
I know when I did some whittler for a sculpture I started to get a rash on my hands from being in contact with the wood for long periods of time. I ended up having to wear gloves.
I could also be that because wood is porous that something has gotten into the wood and is now irritating you.
Totally get some stone ones that always look so awesome.

Personally, I'd keep the earrings in as you don't want the holes to grow over, but make sure they're good quality earrings. In the shower, wash with gentle unfragranced soap. Use Bactine instead of alcohol.
