Organizing pro palettes

I just started buying palette shadows and can't decide how to sort them or label them. Any suggestions?

I peel off the paper label from the bottom of the pot and stick it to the eyeshadow pan. I organize them by colour and do a gradient, started off with white/highlight colours and went from there.

Most of the Specktrettes like to sort them by color grouping (pinks, purples, plums, blues, greens, teals, neutrals etc.) and as far as the labeling goes, I went to Staples and got those round label stickers. These work very well, but you get like a 1000 stickers in a package, so plenty of room if you mess up a bunch of labels lol.

what I did was buy magnet paper. Cut them to about 2 x 5.5 inches and then tape it to the top. Then used another strip of magnet paper that is 3/4 of an inch wide and write the name on it and then cut it and stick it on the big piece of magnet. Easier to move around

and I have one palette for neutrals and 4 othersgoing by ROYGBIV.

I have 10 palettes (I know its a lot) and its by color group. I have green, turquoise, blue, light pink, light violet, dark pink/violet, black&white, light neutral, medium neutral and dark neutral. I put the actual labels on the bottom of the pan when I depot. I have index card with the e/s names in order writted and taped to the top of the palette inside.

It's the colour spectrum as it appears naturally, like in a rainbow.

Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet

I sort mine out by warm and cool tone, then one palette of whites, greys, metallics and black. Makes it a bit easier to find colours in a hurry.

i am up to about 9 or 10 palettes now i think and i sort all of mine by finish (lustre, matte, etc..)
i find it easier to do an eye in the same formula and i get a bunch of color choices that way instead of having to go through 5 palettes to get 5 different colors.

I place a piece of paper on the inside lid with all of the names of the shadows in their respective position (if it was part of a collection, I'll include that as well).

I only have one so far, but it's almost full so I need to get another. Mine is sorted by color. I peeled the label off the bottom of the pot, and put it on the bottom of the pan. I don't have that many shadows so I know what is what, but as I get more, I will need to find a labeling system!

mine all have original labels and magnets on the bottom. i have 8 15-pan palettes. i started with the blacks/grays/whites in one, and then worked out the color spectrum going from there, with each palette housing like colors. its not an exact science, i just go by what i feel looks right. there's no right or wrong way, its just based on what you feel you will remember/is convenient for you. i also have all my palettes marked on the outside with corresponding colors of star stickers, just so its easier to reach for the right palette in the morning.

Right now I have neutrals, warm, and cool. But eventually, they will go by colors. I also do the gradient thing. The lightest color in the top left and the darkest in the bottem right.

I need to think of a cute but practicle thing to put on the front of my palletes so I know what's in each.

How I sort mine is, I go to the mac website and go to the eyeshadows and look at their color specktrem. That helps me out a lot. And if it's a color they don't have anymore, I just guess at where it goes :) lol

i originally went with a system of putting like hues together, but now I just pop them in as i get a new one. the reason being that once i get started(in application) i sort of know in my mind what i want and then just have to hunt for the shade in mind not ness the color family it it in.

I don't like the unfinished look of the palettes when people use white stickies on the inside of their palette lids to identify what the colors are. I know I'm really picky, and I like everything to look perfect.

For me, after I depotted my shadows I used a hair dryer to heat of the label on the bottom of the eye shadow pot, and then I peeled it off, cut out the name & texture from the big round label and stuck it on the bottom of the magnet that I had attatched to the shadow pan. After I peeled the labels off, they were still sticky enought that i could just stick them to the magnet without having to use any glue or anything. All my shadows are like this, and if I'm really dying to know the color I'm using all I have to do is lift up the pan and check underneath. It's really not that big a deal. I know most of the colors off the top of my head anyways.

It's kind of hard to see with the lighting, but you can see how I stuck the black MAC label onto the magnet. It's much more professional looking & closer to how MAC sells their pan shadows.

How I organize my palettes: Color coordinated. I actually have 3 now, so the order has changed a bit, but you get the idea. I like it, cuz I know one palletes has all pinks, purples, etc, and the other browns, greys & greens.

i label my pallets with a table chart that can be created in word.
in my 15 pan pallets i tape it on the inside of the lid and for the quads i stick the table to the bottom of the quad.

I also label them with the original labels from the bottom of the pots stuck on to magnets - if I'm ever in question about which shadow it is I just pop it out and look on the bottom. I don't have enough at this poing to do so, but when necessary I'll probably separate them out by color.
