I guess the reason why he's selling at that price is cos there's only one pro store in the uk & that's in london...and that's the only place they sell the empty quads (or so I was told that by my mua @ my local mac counter). Most people probably dont know how much it retails for normally and so they buy it.... that's the only way I can "justify" that

Nope, MAC stores sell them too (not just pro), just not counters

I've always wondered what I'd do if I sold more on eBay... I'd never set a high buy-it-now, but if the bid goes up high, then so be it. I could live with myself with charging just a bit higher than the item's value, but if I was stretched to the limit on my budget, I still couldn't justify a great markup on an item, *especially* if it's available enough. I'd just have to rearrange my budget - it's my problem, so why gouge someone else to help solve it? And if a seller does it purely for profits, or promote a permanent item as "rare".... let's not even go there.

What really annoys me is the ebay sellers who charge 4 times the actual shipping amount, and ebay do not seem to do anything to stop it.

The quads can be mail ordered from the store in London, and shipping is £2.50 on all orders up to £27 - I had the same issue with the 15 palette, ebayers wanting £15 - £18 plus postage for something the store sells for £10. I simply ordered a 15 palette plus two pro colours at the same time - that way I also save on the pro eyeshadows as they are cheaper than the full pots.

the seller told me they are "rare" and hard to find and only bought in pro stores hmm even if u mail order them they still cost £4.50 plus £2.50 for orders over 27. i agree u need to make a profit but not THAT much. thats just deception

Actually if you file a complaint about ridiculous shipping they will put a stop to it. It just takes a while. I did it for 2 sellers I knew of who would put something BIN for $.01 and then like $24 shipping. Which they were doing to avoid paying ebay fees. To me if you want to sell on ebay it's you're choice and you're responsibility to pay the (small) fees for doing so, not the buyers responsibility. Also, in the case of people charging like $9 to ship an eyeshadow and sending it first class in a (not even bubble) envelope and the postage clearly says, $1.50. or whatever, filing a complaint works to (there is a specific form for this if I can find the link I'll post it). Like I said it just takes time so keep at it.

The shipping costs irk me too, I'm in Europe and most people ask $5-10 for shipping, then I receive my stuff and the stamp says $1.80... Sure they have the shipping costs listed and I choose to pay that much, but I wish they'd charge me the actual costs, not actual cost PLUS 7 dollars. But there are some great sellers too who only charge ~$3 or so for shipping, those I go back to.

Don't forget though - there are lots fees that need to be paid - you have to pay ebay fees 2x & then the paypal fees. Then you need to factor in supplies - envelopes, bubble wrap, gas, your time also counts....
Remember - it's called shipping and handling

So, do some people overcharge in shipping - YES!!
I try not to be one of them, but I need to be fair to myself, too.

If you don't like the shipping charges or price of the auction - simple answer: DON'T BID!

I'll get off my

I was curious about this because one of the items I'm selling on ebay, someone asked how muching shipping was to the UK. So, I did my calculator at usps.com and the shipping cost to Finland by Airmail Letter Post for a 3.5 oz package is $4.20 exactly. I don't send something overseas without "Certificate of Mailing" so that's another $0.95. Total would be $5.15. So asking for $6.00 to $7.00 is reasonable in my opinion.
Anything after $7.00 would be a little too much IMO.

*Just for thoughts!*

Yep, they often say "I calculated and shipping to Finland is $5.15 [or something]" but the stamp says $1.75 or even less, in fact never has it been over 2 dollars [one or two items in an envelope] and I've bought from eBay about 30 times. I don't mind paying for handling and supplies etc, but I know it's not 4 times the actuals costs.

And isn't it against PayPal's TOS to ask your customers to pay for the fees? My friend got her accont deleted/suspended[?] for asking the buyers to cover the fees.

Don't shoot the messenger - just tellin' ya exactly what the calculator is telling me. You can go there yourself and check it out.
