Overpriced MAC on Ebay!

Why do people bid way over the retail price for MAC stuff? Do they even know they're getting ripped off?

It makes me mad!

Well for folks who don't have access to MAC except through ebay, they do what they have to do and that includes paying too much. Plus, in some cases, the prices are crazy because people want x, y or z product and if they's stop being willing to pay that much, the prices might go down. Guess you could say it's supply and demand. If you're in neither of those categories, it helps to know what the actual retail of stuff is before you go and poke around on ebay and then just not buy from those people with inflated prices.

I have so no idea!
For LE items this makes sense (I bought a LE Lipglass a little bit over retail some time ago!) but there's no sense for regular items that you can order online, at a counter or somewhere else!

I so hear you on this one! Especially when I'm winning then lose in the last hour to some ridiculous price way over retail!

When I first started buying MAC like 7 years ago i got it through ebay because we didn't have a counter here (just got one in the last few months) and so sometimes I would buy over retail if it was something I really wanted or if it was better than getting it retail plus shipping at MAC.com...BUT in those days people did not charge $8 shipping for a lipstick (ebay was new then so people weren't price gouging yet) and I would only bid maybe a few bucks over retail and there wasen't the LE hype that there is now, MAC was just starting to be a makeup phenomenon so there wasen't all this crazy bidding, like one time I saw a Prrr lipglass go for $22! Anyway, so in a way I understand but then again i wanna be like, it's just makeup not gold people

I feel the same way about it. Alot of those prices can get so out of control! It's just crazy.
I don't use eBay at all, though I admit I have bought a couple of things off MUA. Even then it's only been for VERY VERY hard to find items that I've been hunting for and want. (like Asia Exclusives)

I am completely guilty of paying more than I should for certain items on eBay but only if its a discontinued product. There are many things that I kick myself for not purchasing while they were in stores and as such I've searched for them on eBay. I haven't gone too far off of what I thought was reasonable (the $100 plus Pleasureflush makes my mind boggle) but I understand where the urge comes from. Its all supply and demand.

Of course to rectify this whole kicking myself thing I've just taken to getting a little something from each collection. If I like something I'll get to stock up at retail prices which solves the problem before it starts

Yes! and sometimes people don't care about the price they pay, they just like to bid.

But what about debit cards? If you have a checking account, you should be able to obtain a debit card.

The price gouging that has resulted from the success of EBAY is ridiculous! Sometimes, I think alot of MAC products( as well as other products) sell out faster than usual because people buy more than usual so they can sell on EBAY at a crazy price!

MAC is more expensive in the Netherlands (and a lot of other countries), so paying slightly more than US retail price still works out cheaper for me

Same here, I'm in the UK and the prices here are ridiculous! I find myself getting stuff from ebay instead of buying them at the shop.

Yeah, for me it's the only option. There is only 1 place to buy MAC in all of Austria and that's a two hour flight from where we live. So eBay has been good to me. All though, I did win a bid on 15 pan pallette with my choice of 15 pan eyesshadows to go in it and the woman never sent it. We got most of the money back anyway. So yeah, sometimes it's the only choice. Also, the store in Vienna does'nt ship orders from the store so I can't go that route either.

I feel so sorry for you guys who don't have a MAC counter near you! My heart goes out, seriously! It's worth paying over a little, I suppose... face it: We're all mac ADDICTS! LOL!
