Palettes vs Pots: Round 1 *Ding*Ding*

Palettes are loooove. It means I know where to find everything. And I can carry what I'm wearing each day in a lil' 4 slot number for touch-ups.

I prefer to buy my shadows in pro pan format. It's cheaper!

I also love the fact Milani, Urban Decay and Body Shop shadows all depot to MAC palettes.

And when I buy MAC LE shadows and have to depot them, yes its a pain, but it goes towards B2M.

I really like my eyeshadows in the pots. I am terrified to screw something up depotting. Those of you that prefer pallettes have several good points though.......but a couple of questions for a newbie.

1. Can you buy the empty pallettes at any store or counter?
2. Can you buy the eyeshadow pans in any store or counter?

I just start depotting my mac e/s into palette and let me tell u it is so addictive. I find myself using alot more of them and have better idea to create my color combination. Also the depotting process is kindda fun

Other than the fact they cost more, I don't have any of the issues mentioned. I organize my pots by color and they all get pleny of usage. I too am terrified of dropping a 15 pan palate because I am totally graceful like that. I have thought about depotting for freebies but I'm not super huge on lippies, if I see one I like chances are real good that I am close to B2M anyway. It doesn't typically take me that long. I always have at least 1 pot I've hit pan on and I go though brow pencils and other misc. items like crazy it seems.

For those of you who depot, do you have issues with breakage?

I dunno, I guess I feel more organized in pots.

With the number of shadows I have pallettes is the way to go. If I had all pots they would get lost in the shuffle

Pots all the way!

I do however have about 5 15-palettes and sometimes I find it difficult, which I probably easily correct the problem by labeling, but I seem to always pick up the wrong palette. Example - I want a green shadow and pick up my pink palette!!!

The only way I can describe the feeling I have towards liking the pots more - I just think they look best/cutest in their "homes"!

Um, my local counter does not carry empty palettes or eyeshadow pans.

You can only get pans at freestanding stores. I don't know about palates because I don't buy them but I have never seen them at any of the counters I frequent.

free standing stores carry pro pans and both the 4 pan and 15 pan palettes. Counters don't have any pans or palettes, only eyeshadow pots.

POTS all the way, I have over 250 eyeshadows, if I wanted to do my eyes with 4 different colors I would have to open like 6 or so palettes!! that would suck!!!

I do have a few palettes that I use for freelance jobs, cause using my own is gross, haha! and palettes are easy for that!

Sorry, I thought I read stores only. Not counters.

palettes, no question

way easier on my storage situation!

i have no idea how people are treating their e/s palettes that they're getting dust all over the place - i have NEVER had this happen until there was a lustre or a matte in the mix. i think i only have maybe 3 or 4 of those out of 120+ tho. any dust that does get on the palette after each application, i always gently blow off before closing it.

i still have a handful of things in pots, but only things with special packaging. they definitely look cute in their pots, but i think they look even cuter next to the free e/s, l/g & l/s i get from depotting

Re: Palates v Pots: Round 1 *Ding*Ding*

Personally, I love palettes. I think they're way more convenient. Up until this week, I only had 1 palette filled up, and the rest of my un-depotted shadows were all in my traincase. My traincase got to the point where it was so filled up with shadows I had no more room! So I ordered 3 more palettes and depotted my shadows (except for BLM) and now I have some more room in my traincase. There have been several issues with breakage (I was doing it in a hurry) but nothing TOO bad. It's mostly hard when you're trying to take out the pan with a little knife, or whatever it is you are using. If you lift it up and the glue hasn't softened, then the shadow starts to break.

Pots. I hate how the pro pans don't stay put in the palette when you dip/swipe your brush in it, it just starts spinning annoyingly. Maybe I should glue them in.

Re: Palates v Pots: Round 1 *Ding*Ding*

I have two 15-pans and multiple 4-pans and while I love the simplicity of the palettes, I am a pot girl at heart!

*somehow that didn't come out right....*

Anyway, I do hate the dust and how the colors get mixed because dust from one floats to another. I also have dropped my 15-pans before, and that is NOT a pretty sight. I have lost a few eyeshadows to them completely shattering in the pan. (And then of course the dust problem is that much more of a big deal.)

So I find the pots much cleaner and I like that they are so self-contained. I agree that they are less convenient, but for me, they win!
