Heya, Im from the UK and i'm going to NYC next month, i have a debit card and its Visa Electron, will i be able to make purchases in america with my visa electron? or should i just not bother with it? I find it easier to pay for stuff by DC if its exceeds like $20.

TIA!

Technically, Visa Electron cards are accepted overseas but there have been reports in the past that some retailers won't accept them. I guess you'll just have to try it and see what happens and have cash as a backup. You can also withdraw dollars from your account using an Electron card on machines that display the Visa logo. Do shop around as most cash machines in the USA charge for withdrawals and the charges vary from bank to bank.

im not shure what a visa electron is but i know almost everyplace excepts visa, mastercard, discover.

The rates for withdrawing from a bank that is not your own is from 2$ - $15 depending on whos atm you decide to get money from.

You might be best getting your currency before you go.. (I think the Post Office do a card that's like traveller's cheques..which might be worth checking out..here's the websitehttp://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/p...diaId=26800661)

ATMs can be expensive in the States and every time you use them they charge you to convert the currencies which will probably end up more expensive than if you change all the money at once.
