pencil, cream, or powered eyeliner?

Hey!

Currently I use a thin creamstick eyeliner by CoverGirl but I am really re-doing my whole makeup routine and am looking into different eyeliners.

So...question! Do you use a pencil, cream, or powered eyeliner? Why? Do you mix it up?

What is the best kind you use?

Thanks everyone!

Depends on what works for you and what you're comfortable working with. I use everything from my eyeshadows to MAC Fluidline to Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencils. I like to buy what I know is good and what I will use more of from MAC & Urban Decay. I get a lot of ideas from posters here and on MakeUpAlley.

I use MAC eye khol in smolder. I prefer using pencils, but only soft khols because they're easier to blend. I don't like liquid as I think it's too harsh, (on myself) and creams/gels waste too much time, however gels are the best for your waterline.

99% of the time, i use gel eyeliners. i've used the stila smudge pots, bobbi brown liners, and the mac fluidlines, which are my favorites. blacktrack is my daily eyeliner staple. still, they aren't super convenient for on-the-go use, so i usually have a technakohl in my purse.

it really depends on the look. i really love liquid/cake liner for dramatic and simple eyes. for smokey eyes, i prefer gel cream, and pencils are great for every day or quick application.

I use, engraved or graphblack by mac or some times urban decay's 24/7 in zero.

I'd have to say I pick up zero over all others though, and after I apply the eyeliner, I take either mac's carbon e/s, or black pigment and pat it on over the line, this makes it stick better on my waterline as well as all over

i use liquid to finish tips on cat eyes.
i love fluidlines for top of the lid and on bottom rim if i want blacktrack on there.
and i love white pencils for bottom rims to make my eyes look bigger, thankfully the technique actually works for me!

I mostly use eyeshadows like beauty marked or sketch for lining but I also really like the powerpoint pencils and fluidline.

It really depends on the look I'm going for and the amount of time I have. I love fluidline for a finished line, I use it quite often. If I want a more smudgy look or am in a hurry, I use a pencil, usually a MAC powerpoint, they're the best pencils I've ever used.

pencils are so much more easier for novices like me. i hardly use eyeliners
i love teddy eye kohl though. i'm not used to seeing myself with eyeliner but teddy looks fantastic
2nd would be fluidlines. they aren't as difficult as liquid for me...and they have great colours too.

last would be liquidlast. i wish i could dump mine.

Me personally, my favorite thing to do is use a MAC fluidline line and then I take the the MAC 219 pencil brush and go over the line with a bit of shadow for a sexy smokey look. If I'm in a hurry and don't have much time to play makeup in the morning, I like to use a pencil like the Powerpoints. I haven't tried the Technakhols yet, but I would love to see how they last.

This is a great thread!
The main thing an eyeliner does is make your eyelashes look thicker at the base. You can also dramatically change the shape of your eye (round, almond, etc.) using eyeliner.

-Pencil eyeliners tug at your eye, and that causes crow feet as you age.
-Shadows by themselves flake and have little or no staying power.
-Liquid liners run, end up looking like a sticker when they dry, and are very hard to control.

I vote for Cream and Gel liners. These are controlable, keep their form, glide right on, and stay put. Practice with a waterproof cream eyeliner (I've found Fluidline to be the best), and invest in a good skinny eyeliner brush. Smashbox makes a great "bent" eyeliner brush for beginners. A cream eyeliner will save your life, guaranteed.

as mentioned, it depends on the look. i love liquid but if its not really going to "set off" the look (or if i'm in a rush), i'll use either black eyeshadow or a pencil.

it also depends on your skill level. starting out you will definitely want to use pencils but as you get more experienced you'll be more comfortable playing around with liquid and gels.

that being said, i LOVE my fluidlines!
