Perm stuff allergies

Hi

To make a long story short, last night I went to a new salon to get my hair done (cut and color). The girl I had an appointment with was a student, I knew it, it was on purpose because it cost less (about 35$ for the whole package).

She did my coloration, and instead of using vaseline to prevent the color from staining my skin, she didnt use any and told me she would use something good after. She didnt want to make it complicated...

Anyway, last year I had a very big reaction to perm stuff another hairdresser used on my face to remove stain. Basicaly, she forgot to remove it from my face after. The owner of the salon was mad at her and offered me products to compensate (???).

I told this to the girl last night, because I was wondering if she was going to use this product too. She told me yes, and that she would clean it very well after. And she didnt...

After cleaning my hair, I returned to my seat, and with a towel I was cleaning a little bit my face, it was smelling rotten eggs a lot (perm stuff). We went back to the sink to clean it again.

Soooo... this morning I woke up scratching my face to blood. She didnt remove it everywhere. I just don't know what to do with that.

Anybody had a reaction to perm stuff before?
What did you do?

Should I go back to the salon???

Oh definitely, if you experienced a reaction to something and warned her in advance about how to prevent it you should absolutely go back and complain. Hope your face feels better.

i've never had this happen, but i too would go back and complain! you gave her fair warning! once when i was having my hair dyed blonde, some dye must have touched my scalp..i tried to ignore it but within five minutes i yelped in pain and the stylist helped me..i dont know if i could deal with having a much longer reaction!

I'm battling with the evil right now hahaha
I just can't stand not to scratch... it would feel sooooo good

I called the owner of the salon, and she basicaly told me to go to hell... She said it was my fault, that I should not go to school salons because bad luck can happen.

You should get some compensation. But did you even try to remove any of it when you got home? I know that when someone uses something I'm allergic to (say rubbing alcohol) as soon as they're done and I can wash it off I do it myself just as a reassurance. Next time you go to get your hair done tell them before they start that you are allergic to the cleaner and you'd prefer them to use Vaseline, bring some too just in case they don't have it. If they won't do it that way leave. You're not being forced to get your hair done there.

Oh yeah I know, I should have reacted when she told me that she had ''a good product for it'' but I had a migraine and I was tired so I didnt react...

When I got home, I tried to wash my face without rubbing with a towel, because I knew that some redness would appear anyway.

I can't wait to get home and put on some ice...

It is extremely HARD to find a good hairdresser/salon you can stick to these days.

In that case, I would actually file a complaint or incident report with whatever regulating/licensing agency exists in Ontario. In my state (US), it would be the state cosmetology licensing board. The schools are still held to standards under this board of licensing. The owner is responsible for those students apprenticing under her, and her attitude/response is both unprofessional and potentially unsafe.

I'm waiting for her call
I went to the salon yesterday, an employee was freaking out when she saw what happened. She also mentionned that her boss isn't appreciated by a lot of people...

She said she would call her to tell her what my face looks like and that she would ask her to call me. My bf suggested I wait till tonight and if she doesnt call, to call her on her cellphone.

Here in Quebec (not Ontario), I dont know if we have a licensing board, but I'll try to find it today.

I'm just very worried that it wont stop...
Yesterday I was lucky enought that I only had to wait 45 minutes at the hospital, because there wasn't a lot of people. If I go back, I don't know how long I'll wait

This will sound dumb but make sure you take pictures of each step as proof as what happened. It's a good thing an employee has also seen what has happened. And if the manager/owner of the salon still does nothing get a lawyer. It's causing you bodily harm; discomfort and possibilities of you missing work.

That looks so painful!! I agree, continue to photograph each step and do some research as to the licensing/regulating board and report the injury and the lack of a response from the owner. Please try to keep a record of all contact you've had with her and her response. I hope your face gets better, and that everything works out for you.

Go to a specialist allergist doctor RIGHT AWAY! Don't go to the hospital, they are sometimes very stressed and don't treat each patient propperly. Find an allergy specialist (sometimes called an allergist & immunologist) in the phone book or by recommendation of your general practitioner, and set up an appointment immediately!!

I don't mean to scare you but if this allergy is getting worse and worse, it can be life threatening! Benadryl doesn't seem like enough medication for the serious reactions you are having on your face! I have had a similar outbreak and I was given a stronger anti-histamine and cortisone shot. You need to def see a specialist asap.

Go to the salon and ask them to give you the exact product theys used on you and bring it with you to the doctor so he can look at the ingredients list. There may be some ingredients that cause common allergic reactions.

I'm serious, allergies are not to take lightly! I also had some severe allergic reactions to food and you need to see a specialist immediately!!
