Pigments ==> Is this normal?

Hi!

I came home today to find 6 piggies in my mailbox, I had them CPed.
I was very happy, but when I opened them to check the colors I was also a bit shocked to see that 2 of my pigments were only half full. Is this normal? Has this happened to anyone else?

I know that due to the consistancy of some piggies they appear less than full. It seems that the pigments that have a "wet" texture (clumps together) does seem to settle more than the newer more refined pigments. HTH

I'm fairly sure that they are filled by weight and not necessarily by volume, so if the pigment is denser, it won't fill the entire jar.

From the MAC FAQ: Pigments

Quote:
Why is my pigment jar not full up the brim?
Since pigments are not packed according to volume, but are all packaged into the same containers, some jars will seem to be under filled while others are packed full. Different textures of pigment have different weights, and thus will pack differently. Generally those of the larger grain such as frost or rose will be very full, and are very fluffy. Most pigments will be full or near full. Pigments such as mattes, or finer textures may seem under filled.

My gold metal pro pigment was only half full so I called the pro store to find out what was up and they said the exact same thing as the post above. The metal pigments in particular are heavy so they don't take up as much space. They are filled by weight, not volume.

I just checked my pigments, which I bought from the MAC website, and Dark Soul appears to have a gap of between 1/8th and 1/4th inch, and the others (Chocolate Brown, Tan, Fairylite, some others) all had less than a 1/8th inch gap to the rim of the jar. I didn't look at Provence and Naked since I've used those & have maybe only used a couple of the others once or twice.

ITA. Yes, the metal pigments are by weight and tend to take up less space. I was warned about this before I bought mine.
