i heard today that a school friend of mine was killed in a car accident on tuesday night. she was in a serious head on collision, and her car caught fire. the worst part was she was less than 10 minutes from getting home.

there was a prayer service for her held today which i couldn't attend because i was on a plane coming home. :'(

i'm shattered at this news, she was a lovely girl and was so gentle and sweet. her family does not deserve this.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Car accidents are one of my biggest fears, I had my first one in November and thankfully the guy I hit and I were both ok.

Yeh... If your going out on New Years (or any day really), do everyone a favor and take a cab.

Not that i'm guilt-free in this department, I've had a few stupid moments. But I try to go out with sober drivers, or hop a cab with friends.

Cab's are usually te best bet, it you pack 4-5 people into a cab, it's not that expensive, no matter how far you have to go. And it's a LOT cheaper than a DUI, or a funeral.

rae, whilst DUI is a big problem, and i thank you for bringing it to people's attention to be responsible and get a cab, as far as i know that wasn't a factor in this crash. the police put it down to speeding. whether it was my friend or the other car involved doing the speeding (or both), i'm not sure and i'm not going to start questioning her family about it.

put together a late boxing day night and a road with an 80km/h speed limit and no street lights and you've got a dangerous situation.
