I stayed up all night trying to remove it but was not successful. Now I am not very saavy when it comes to computers or computer lingo, so can someone explain to me elementary style what I should do? I have already downloaded PREVX1 and it said that it deleted them, but didn't. I tried to do a system restore several times and was unsuccessful. I ran ad-aware, spybot search and destroy and AVG for free. They have all come up clean, but everytime I search the internet is shuts down. When I initially ran AVG for free this is the virus it pulled up: Trojan horse downloader.Zlob.CXB it also found .CXA, .CXC, .CXD, and .CXE. So if anyone knows what I need to do to get my laptop back up and running pleeeeeeeeaaaaase help!!! If I need to redo the hardrive that is fine, b/c I only really used it for the internet anyway! Thanks in advance for your help!

BTW: The laptop is Dell and is running on Windows XP in case that is important info!

Go back to AVG and download the latest free version.

Disconnect your computer from the internet (unplug the modem/network cable) after downloading and remove the existing AVG program using Control Panel.

Reboot your computer and press the F8 key as it starts to boot Windows XP - this will give you an option to run in Safe Mode (you don't need network support)

From within safe mode, install the new copy of AVG you have just downloaded. If it asks you to reboot then go into safe mode again.

Then scan your computer from within safe mode. AVG was updated on 14th August to detect and remove downloader.Zlob

That may very well allow the antivirus program to get rid of the virus.

Good luck!

You shouldn't need to reinstall spyware doctor but you do need to run it in safe mode. This should prevent the virus starting up. When viruses are actually running they can interfere with antivirus software so that it doesn't detect them.
