Post-makeover issues

Well, I wanted to do an FOTD today, but every elaborate (=interesting) eyeshadow combo I tried looked so terrible compared to my MAC Pro makeover. I ended up not happy enough with any look to keep it. Have similar things happened to any of you girls? How do you get over it?

Its always intresting... when u try to do a look....... u have to remember while trying to do a look that was done on u by another person is never going to come out exact....... everyone has different styles when it comes to MU application and color placements. Maybe ur going about it in the wrong way.. instead of trying to do the EXACT look and style. add ur own personal touches to it... and make it ur own. Also when it comes to E/s combos i usually try to stay in same color family, or colors that will play off of one another. Anyhooo i think everyone goes through things like this time to time......

It's a pro makeover for a reason. Those women have much more experience and probably training than you. They may have better tools, too. I'm sure if you practice, you'll get the hang of it.

Personally, I don't care overly elaborate makeup on my face. I think the work is gorgeous, but it looks too costumey to me. There's nothing wrong with not doing the fancy stuff.

I guess I've always known I'm not gonna do what the MA did as well as he did it, so I never stressed about it. I just personalize it and make the look my own and it feels good

Just get the brushes she used (or comparable ones) and start practicing!
You'll get it but you have to remember she does that all day so she gets alot of practice.

It happens to me sometimes too. Just practice and try different techniques and mixing colours to see what works best for you that you can make look good.

Thanks everyone! I took your advice and tried something from my own imagination, completely different from the MAC MUA. Check it out in the FOTD section- blue w/ lashes.

The other thing to remember is that you dont have to have dramatic color's up to your eyebrows to have, "girlie" MU on. I dont think anyone on a day to day basis can pull that off.

I think we've all gone through the phase your in right now, obsessed with bright colors, and out of control makeup. I know I did (still am to a degree), and it's totally fun. The first colors I bought were hot pink and an electric blue (wasn't MAC, although i own Electric Eel and Sushi Flower lol). But I also think learning how to use those colors for an effect thats wearable makes you an even better MUA. Dont get me wrong, i love over the top MU (like the rainbow butterfly wings my friend had done for her rave) but thats not something I'd wear to work, it's rave makeup.

Obviously your mileage may vary, but for me, I love makeup that incorporates bold colors, but does it in a subtle way. I know I'm doing it right when I get compliments from women at work who wear little to no makeup on a daily basis, and questions about how I did it. Because I know it's bold, but also classy. Doesn't mean i wont wear pink on pink on pink for a night out though

You know...you just wipe it off and try again. I have my days when I can't get "my groove" on. Try your own ideas and see where that goes...

Thanks Raerae, very well put. I do admire women like Kimmee (the MAC MUA who did my makeover) that wear dramatic elaborate makeup (I assume) almost daily. I really wish I could be like them, but I'm lazy and not very skilled. Plus I'm a night person, so I hate getting up early, which makes it hard to have enough time to do anything special every day. Most days are simpler than my FOTD's, just because I don't have much time to get blending, fake lashes, etc. done right. But I guess I can't deny being in a stage where I love bright colors and such.

I've only been wearing makeup for almost a year, so I guess my makeup persona hasn't had time to develop yet.

I still don't have the hang of it either LOL! When my bf takes pics I'm like: I can't put these on Specktra! And then I don't. I have a few good books now who explain the outer V thing really well so I'm gonna try with my books next to the mirror. One of them is makeup makeovers by Robert Jones, you should buy it!

Now, every friend I have ask me to makeup them.
I also believe that its all in the brush you use.
But, I understand your feelings, because when I try new stuff, sometimes it doesnt end like I wanted and it makes me angry

Get a job @ MAC then

They wear MU like that because it's job appropriate and helps sell the products. I doubt they wear dramatic elaborate makeup all the time.

Subtle MU can be just as amazing and dramatic as hot pink

Ooooh, a job at MAC. I've really been considering something like that lately. But I dunno.... I'd need to become a lot better first. So I'll keep practicing.

And thanks Bianca, for your comments in my FOTD's too. You should totally post some FOTD's. I'd love to see them.
