Ok guys so as most of you who frequent this area of the forum know I've been with MAC as a perm employee since April - not that long. However since I've been with the company my sales have been AMAZING! :) Sorry I have to brag cuz I'm so competitive with myself haha.

When I first interviewed with the company I let our RM and MRO know that I want to make a career with MAC. Now some changes are going on at our counter - A LOT of changes. My manager just got promoted to a bigger counter (*tear) and most likely our Assistant Manager will become the counter manager and our 3rd key will become assistant manager. Then we have one other 3rd key and she's new to our counter (she started with the company in Oct and she's already 3rd key, my new inspiration haha). So there is going to be a 3rd key position open - now this is IF everything goes the way we all think it will go.

Our Product Specalist is interviewing at MAC PRO and he's AMAZING so we're all crossing our fingers for him to get it. And nobody else seems like they're interested in going for the 3rd key position. I really want to and our newer 3rd key (who started in Oct.) told me I should go for it. I'm not certified for anything because we're such a huge and busy region our Trainers are never in and most of us who haven't been certified before the counter opened in Nov. haven't gotten any chance to get certified. Even the new 3rd key, she came from the same region, just got PHD certified a week before she came to our counter.

I plan on talking to me assistant manager and telling her what I wanna do, since all my goals have been discussed only really with my manager. Those of you who have been with MAC longer I just want to get your opinions, if it opens do you think I should post so soon?!

Prior to MAC I was an office manager, and when I worked for the bank I was a Merchant Teller/Lead Teller and I was being groomed for a management position. I know my chances probably wont be great, I'm sure people who have been with MAC longer and proven themselves more within the company will post, but should I post for it anyway?!

I know this is really long so I'm super sorry lol.

How many hours are you now?

My RM & ARM really want me to go for a 3rd key, but they said as far as "the company" goes, I would have more of a chance actually getting a 3rd key if I spend some time at a 30 or 35 hour position first....but then again, I'm on the other side of the country (but since we're in the largest markets, I'm sure a lot of the things are the same)

So yeah, onto my opinion.....
MAC is making a lot of changes as far as qualifications go (we were told that they are trying to change it so that you MUST be fashion show certified to even work at a MAC Store) & I've been seeing a lot higher requirements for some recent postings (fashion show certification, 2 years w/ MAC, etc).

So yeah, if the position gets posted & you meet the minimum requirements, definitely post for it...an interview (even if you don't get the job) will show your dedication & your desire to move up & that will look good to your MRO & trainers & help you in the future.

Either way though, speak with your new manager (don't wait for the posting) & let them know you're interested & your qualifications & goals....it's part of their job to help everyone improve & move forward.

Thanks hun, I always love to get your opinion on things. If you look at the postings for MAC stores in the Bay Area we've already implied the requirement of Product Specalist cert, Fashion Show cert, or Advanced Make-up cert. I think its great cuz its motivating people to want to move up and improve their skill.

Right now I'm only 20 hours because that's all they had when they hired me. However I make myself avaliable to be called in to pick up hours when someone is sick and they know I'll take more hours when we have them.

Thanks to a lot of inspiration from my Product Specalist and my ambition to move up with the company I've takin the lead role in planning a huge fundraising party for the SF AIDS Walk for our counter. I've been coming in super early n putting in a lot of my time and work and I know my assistant manager sees that. I guess I really should talk to her about my interest in posting when it comes up. I don't get back to work until Friday but who knows I might stop in early. Thanks hun.

I say go for it...if you meet the qualifications, and your numbers are good, then post for it....good luck!

Any word yet? I know there were some 3rd key postings this week, but I forget where they were.

I have my eyes set on a 40 hour at Henri Bendels (not that I will get it-it's a much coveted position & just about everyone in the area will be posting for it, but it's worth a shot)

Well my Assistant Manager just interviewed on Thursday for the Manager position and we're all cheering for her. But she's on vacation for a week so we probably wont know for another two weeks I'm assuming. Then if she gets it our main 3rd key will be posting for her position which I'm assuming he'll be getting because he's been being groomed for it. So I probably wont know for maybe a month or even two months.

Until then I'm just trying to rock my sales, picking up more hours and asking for more responbilities.
