a friend of mine has unplugged his mac and a connected external hard drive, while his computer was in sleep-mode. the screen had blanked out and mistakenly he tought he had turned it off.
after two weeks, I discover this friend frought and fretting that his mac will no longer properly recognise his external hard drive, and my own PC, when I attempted to introduce them, simply showed an icon only provoking an intruction to insert a disk when I tried to open it. I am worried for my friends files. he is distraught. he is new to macs and all his files are from his old pc and stored on the external hard drive. as I undrstand it, he was working with these files on the hard drive.
that neither og us can now access the hard drive makes me think he has hurt its feelings, but why won't it talk to me? could such a simple mistake in powering-down be so catastrophic? hope someone can help a helper
