Quad fans!!

I just began using Mac fairly recently and discovered how good the quads are (I looooove quads and palettes). I'd like to build up a little collection of them so I've been doing my research here... I know I'm not the only quad ho out there, so who can help me out?!

Some of my questions are...

Are any of the quads very similar to each other? I know there is a dupe thread for the singles, so are there any quads that are too similar to justify owning both?

When two quads are released with a collection, are they generally one warm and one cool, or do you find most of them to work on anyone? Are there any quads that really jump out at you as definately being very warm or cool? Sometimes pics on ebay are crap, and I'm very cool.

I saw a "brows quad" on the comprehensive list... is that the name of a regular quad or is it brow products in the quad?

Are the holiday and limited ed. palettes as popular as the quads? I see them on ebay but none really jump out at me yet.

I got Corps de Couleur and Take Wing this week and love them. I'm so excited to get more and I cannot WAIT for smokey eyes to come out!

IMO Corps de Coleur and the Showflower quad are similar. Not identical, but similar enough that I personally wouldn't own both. I love the Pandamonuim Quad from Balloonacy! That's my favorite of the ones I own

Some quads can be really similar. Recently up for "debate" was the Showflower Quad vs Corp De Couleur (sp?). Some will opt for purchasing both because IMO it's the collector in them. Sometimes it just depends on which one you'll actually use more or how many you can afford.

Whenever 2+ quads are released in the same collection it's usually labeled/geared as a warm or cool quad. I don't think it really matters though, I pick out of preference. You just gotta know what you like and what you can [learn to] work with.

The colors in the brows quad are just e/s colors MAC selected to fill brows.

I think the Holiday/LE palettes are a really good value which makes them a popular buy. You get at least 5 colors and a brush. They're usually a mix of perm. and LE colors or sometimes all LE. I currently don't own any but that's because I've either missed out on them or had most of the colors or something similar in shade.

Anywhos, HTH! [I'm excited for Smoke Signals too!

I loved the Brows quad, but then realized I could get them all separately, being perm colors, so I gave the quad to my niece. Great set of browns, tho, for brown eyes, just basic eyeshadows.

Count me in as excited for the Smoke Signals! And if you're just getting into the collecting...just wait till we get to the holidays! Then you also need to be grabbing the LE colors coming out, call MAC to order empty palettes and start creating your own...it never ends!

Very helpful response, thanks.

Ok... I definately know what colors work for me and what I like. I think I'm going to get both the Smoke Signals quads. They look so yummy.

I'm such a collector too! I used to be really into Urban decay, but they are always discontinuing products (lipsticks, the original body powders, nail polish) and then I'd end up so disappointed. Also I always felt like I was waiting forever for new stuff to come out. I thought I'd try Mac since they always have new collections coming out, and it's a good way to keep my look evolving and from becoming stale.

Even if 2 quads look very similar, it doesn't really matter much. The formulas make all the difference. The formula will determine the colour payoff and that makes a huge difference at application. I.e. Velvet v.Veluxe Pearl or Lustre v. Matte.

Ok, good point. I don't have enough Mac yet to have experimented and experienced all the different textures and finishes so I hadn't thought of that. Good to know, thanks.

I love quads as well. I think often times there are colors that are similar to permanent colors in quads, or just perm. colors in general in a quad, but I haven't seen any two quads that look like dupes for each other, although Beau and Boudoire Hues are close, but not really even.
I the Palettes are nice for those new to MAC and those who collect. If you're new to the brand, it's a good way to get your hands on several colors at once, but if you already own a good chunck of shadows, most of the ones in a palette (at least 3, but often 4 of the 6) are repeat colors. And then if you're a collector it doesn't matter because you're collecting.

I think sometimes the palettes are warm v. cool, but they may also be subtle v. intense. Like the Liza AM/PM quads were subtle v. intense but the two Diana quads were more warm v. cool. The new Smoke Signals quads also look to be warm v. cool, but the difference between one being cool and another being warm is a slight one, I'm sure you could mix and match colors.

You know as well that you can see pictures of most of the quads minus the most recent ones at http://macproductgallery.com/gallery/main.php

And Corps de Coleur is a great quad. I also really like Pandamonium because the purple shade is so bold and unique.
