Question for anyone who works at a counter!

When your counter isn't busy, and you need to traffic stop and get somebody on your chair, what do you ask the customers? I'm looking for a way to ask a passer by if they want to try our new product.. but not in a 'freebie' way. Does that make sense ha?

Most counters I have worked for give you different promotional tools to use to get potential clients back to your counter.. my counter has complimentary makeup session cards or "try our new foundation" type cards, yes it is offering services for free and samples but you can for sure get business out of it. It's just all about being productive, sometimes it can get really dead in Cosmetics but if you always have someone at your counter or in your chair, it makes your counter look really popular which is a good thing!
