Do people usually wear wedding rings on the right or left hand. Does wearing a band on the left hand vs. the right hand mean different things? Thanks for your help.

My family and relatives don't do the wedding ring thing, so I'm not sure.

Yes you wear it on the finger next up from the pinky on the left hand. As I understand, the custom behind this is because your left hand is closer to your heart. HTH!

Yep, on the "ring" finger of the left hand. And I prefer to wear my wedding band so it's at the base of my finger, followed by my engagement ring. I guess I've heard that it's so the wedding band is closest to your heart.

Ring on your your right hand, on your ring finger, is supposed to be for yourself and has nothing to symbolize marriage

Wearing the ring on the ring finger of the left hand is a tradition that dates back to when people believed there was a vein that ran from there directly to the heart.

I know that some widows who remarry switch their first bands to their right hand.

Here you go.

Quote:
The wedding ring is usually worn on the fourth left ring finger of the left hand because it is believed that the left ring finger contains the “vena amoris” or “vein of love” It is a traditional belief that the “vein of love” directly ran from the heart to the fourth finger of the left hand. It is only because of this belief that in some countries the wedding ring is placed on the fourth ring finger of the left hand. The term “vena amoris” was first used by Henry Swinburne in the year 1686. By wearing the wedding ring on the fourth left finger of the left hand, the couples symbolize their undying love for each other.

But in some countries like India, Chile, Venezuela, Spain it is worn on the right ring finger. The conservative Christians and Jews in Eastern European countries also wear the wedding ring on the right ring finger. In Austria and Netherlands the catholic people wear it on the right hand. Wearing the wedding ring on the right ring finger evolves from Roman tradition. It is believed that the left hand is a negative one and right hand is a positive one. Wearing the wedding ring on the right or left finger mainly depends on custom and tradition.

i've always heard than a ring on your right ring finger is a promise ring, like something your significant other would buy you when they're serious about you, but not ready for engagement/marriage yet. when i was with my ex, he bought me a diamond ring and that's how i wore it.

wedding bands, i've always heard, went on your left ring finger but i never knew why (until this post haha!)

I'm Eastern European and we wear it on our right hand... I was always told that orthodox christians wear their wedding rings on their right hand, but I hnestly don't know why.

I do it that way and sometimes people don't believe I'm married until I explain it ;D

Thanks guys. There was a guy who was flirting with me and he had a ring on his left hand, so I was apprehensive and I didn't flirt back because I didn't want to flirt with a married guy.
