I'm and NC50. I am in your complexion range. I love to do either a smokey brown eye or black eye with red lipstick.

I agree. Or just an eyeliner-mascara kind of thing with no eyeshadow.

how about a shimmery beige eyeshadow (like motif) w/ black eyeliner (thin line) and mascara? that will be minimal eye makeup and won't compete with the red lips.

They say there is a red lipstick for every woman. You might have to try a lot of reds on to find your HG product. Not just in shade range (I do think you would look smashing in a blood red lipstick similar to NARS Fire Down Below) but each company has a different quality and feel to their product. Some are drier and more longlasting, some are sheer and glossy and ephemeral (they are gone in 2 minutes). If a woman has highly pigmented lips and picks a too sheer colour its not going to look like the tube colour. An amplified creme or "matte" (most mattes today are not too mattes-they do have shine-and they have much more pigment) . Thicker lipsticks tend not too stray quite as much too.

Good eyes for strong lip colour vary from person to person. Taupes, browns, grays (there are some lovely brown grays blue and green grays) work well. Personally, I don't smoke up the eye with strong lipcolour-its just too many focal points, or it can look a bit trashy.

Im not gonna lie. I actually believe there are no rules in wearing red lipsticks. I have heard people say to avoid a harsh eye when doing red lips. Bump that, there are no make up rules. Sometimes I opt for a smokey eye, sometimes I opt for a neutral eye. Sometimes I wanna do a purple eye. It really all depends on my mood. If you want something simple, I recommend a shadow that is light and beige. Something like MAC's Shroom and Woodwinked combo. Or just simply Soba.

Now if you wanna do a smokey eye, Try Carbon on your lid, Knights Divine or Print on top of that and blend your highlight of choice.

There are so many reds available from all brands- some are coral reds, pink/orange/blue based reds.. When it comes to MAC Russian Red is my favourite, its a creamy matte BRIGHT red- so hot with some beige shimmer on the eyes and black liquid liner cat eyes. MAC also makes a Russian Red lipglass which you can layer over the lipstick for some shine.

Look around and see the different kinds of reds available and what you like and go for it! I recommend getting a lipliner too, it gives definition which I think is needed with a bold lip colour

you definately have to try on different reds to find your perfect one. there's bright reds and dark reds (which i'm big on every woman having at least one of both haha...i adore red lipstick!)

as far as what to wear with it, i think that depends alot on your face shape and personal style. it's generally safe to wear neutrals or just winged eyeliner with red lips, but there's no rules in makeup...have fun with it!

I'm NW45 as well and also just started wearing lipstick. I don't believe in many rules with makeup and will wear my reds with whatever i feel suits it that day.

a combo that i love is MAC media l/s with vino l/p and decorative l/g it's described as a purple-red but it's more of a brown-red in my opinion and it looks great on our complexion.

I say try a bunch of different reds to figure out what shades and textures suit you best bcus what i love or suggest may be too loud or whatever for you. g/l

I'm also not a believer in rules. Makeup is meant to be fun! There are so many different ways to go, however, I usually love a classic look when I'm rockin' a red lip. I do a light shade on my lid, like Woodwinked, then do a cat eye with black liquid liner or Fluidline. Paired with a red lip, it's extra sexy.

I'm NC45 and I love red lips. Some of my favorites are: MAC lipstick in Viva Glam I, Russian Red, Ruby Woo, Dubonnet, Queen's Sin; Mary Kay lipstick in Red Salsa.

ITA. I would do either woodwinked or even amber lights, black liq liner, desert rose blush, and red lips, so chic yet, classy.

I second a light shimmery or matted look. Try MAC's Ladybug L/S and Venetian L/G. I'm also NW45 or NC50. I prefer NC50.

lady bug and russian red seem to be popular choices for red lips, why don't you try them out?

I tend to use a neutral smokey eyes. I have made a tutorial wearing neautral eyes and red lips, check it out if you want.

It took me awhile to find my perfect red. I usually do really neutral eyes with it, but for some color a little green eyeshadow works wonderfully.
