Next month I will be getting braces. My teeth are not that messed up there just a little scrooked on the bottom and on the top two of my side teeth are facing forward instead of going side ways.Anyways im getting braces to make my teeth perfect but I can't decide on which kind to get.My dentist told me that regualr braces are better for "younger people"(im 18).He said the invisilign you have to keep them on at all times except for when you eat and brush your teeth. So what he basically said was that regualr braces are better(for me) because invisilign you have to keep them in at all times. But I don't want a mouth full of metal and I dont want to have to go threw all the pain of having regualr braces. My two older sister had braces and I remember all the pain they would go threw everytime they went back to have them tightened.I also thought that invisilign would be better because my teeth are not that messed up so it would be less hassle. This might seem a little vain but I also think im going to look ugly with a mouth full of metal.Like whenever I smile people are going to be like ewww brace face.So I just wanted some advice from you guys on this.

Thanks

Hi

What kind of metal braces are you talking about? are you talking about retainers? because normal, actual fixed braces aren't removable...
Anywho it sounds like you'd feel far more comfortable with the invisilign ones so i'd say go with that if you'll feel more comfortable
smiles.gif
I know i would get those lol
I had normal metal braces before and i hated them; they didn't hurt that much and i got used to them but it was uncomfortable whenever i had them tightened. I thought they made me look ugly lol - looking back at pictures of me with braces on i'm just like 'damn...' lol But yeah go with whatever you think you;ll be happy with...either way they're not permanent and you'll have a beautiful set of teeth when they're removed

For me personally I'd go with the regular metal braces. I had a hard time keeping my retainer in so i know i'd always be messing with the invisalign and taking it out all the time especially in my sleep. It would probably take me forever to get my teeth straightened with the invisalign. Depending on your teeth though you may have to get the regular metal braces but i'm not totally sure. The main downside with metal braces is that your teeth are harder to clean, it hurts more and sometimes they cut the inside of your mouth.

Yea I know I would probably be taking the invisilign retainer out when I went shopping or something but on the other hand I dont know how comfortable the retainer is.They say on the commercial and stuff that its really comfortable and no can notice when you have them on so I dont know.

Ive had both within the past 2 years..heres some pros/cons
Braces:
Pros: dont have to remember about taking them out, they do straighten more faster, fix overbite not just crooked teeth
Cons: more painful, the aesthetic aspect
Invisalign:
Pros: removable, not very noticeable
Cons: cannot do major straightening, hard to remember to wear sometimes

I like invisalign better than braces but to be honest braces give you way better results. I had braces then dumb me didnt wear my retainer so im with invisalign but im getting good results, it just takes longer.
Oh & they are noticeable they arent completely invisable but its not bad at all...also they feel completely normal after a while but when you first get it adjusted it hurts a little bit, but not too bad.

retainers are for when you take your braces out.

i don't get why everyone's so afraid of the pain of traditional braces...they aren't that bad. if you don't have a palat spreader, they're nothing. the only painful part of my treatment was that damn spreader.

i had traditionals on when we took senior pictures and when i graduated high school...i wasn't real stoked about that. but, they did make my teeth much better (though, mine were fuuuuucked up bad) so it's all gravy.

i think if your orthodontist says traditional is the best way to go, that's the best way to go. he spent lots of years in school to know these things, i'd trust him.

I agree w/ Kimmy. Plus, with traditional braces, the treatment has a higher level of success, is more effective, costs less, and HELLO, less treatment time! I've been lucky in that I never needed them ( but I secretly wanted them as a kid, go figure), but my daughter did, and she's wearing them now. For all the hemming and hawing she did before getting them; they're actually not really noticeable. She draws attention to them herself by getting her bands done in her favorite colors, but of course, you can just get enamel colored bands. They're really not bad at all. Better to have metal mouth for 6-24 months than a forever jacked up grill!

Haha ! I Was Once A BraceFace Myself! And I Thank My Ma For Getting Them For Me In The First Place. They Are Worth Every Penny.

To Me They Don't Hurt Por Nada Este Nada Serio.

You Won't Look Ugly. You'll Probably Look Hella Cute. Don't Trip.

PLUS PLUS. You Don't Have To Have The Top One Metal Mine Were Invisible, Still Braces But LIke Clear.. Just With A Little Metal Wire Connecting It, Hardly Noticably..

DONT GET CLEAR BANDS WITH IT THOUGH, WHEN YOU EAT SOMETHING OF COLOR THEY TURN YELLOW-Y AND STAY THAT WAY TILL THEY TAKE THE BANDS OFF AGAIN. Trust Me.

You Do Not Want Yellow Looking Teeth. No ThankYou Hell To The No.

Get Colors...? It Looks Cute.

traditional braces take alot less time than invisalign. invisalign takes about 2 years total i think. i had traditional braces twice. i got them when i was in 3rd grade, and had em for 3 years (major overbite and a gap in front - boy was i HOT!!!) unfortunately my dentist never tightened em, so all those years i had em were for nothing (years later he went psycho as many dentists do). so, as a freshman IN COLLEGE, i got em again, but just on top cause the gap had come back. they told me it would take about 9 months, but they came off in only 6. i remember never smiling, or when i did, i never showed my teeth. now, when i smile, all you see is teeth.

you should go with traditional braces. and if you don't wanna be metal mouth, you can opt for the enamal colored braces. there are a few drawbacks to those tho. they are a little more expensive than the metal ones, and they can stain. whichever you choose, it'll all be worth it in the end.

My vote is for clear or enamel-toned traditional braces. As Erine mentioned, there is a shorter treatment time. Additionally, I wouldn't want the slight lisp that invisalign gives some people. Oh, and I HATED wearing a retainer after my braces so I was always messing with it or taking it out. That metal just needs to be bolted to my teeth or I will be tempted to take it out.

My teeth were so bad I had to wear tradiational braces for FOUR YEARS. But seriously they did a great job and now I get tons of compliments on my teeth. Invisalign takes longer and doesn't give you the results of traditional braces. I think traditional ones are a better investment...as long as you're stuck with braces you might as well get the best results possible

And they're really not bad

I had regular braces for 5 years. GRRR!! I didn't really have a hard time with mine. They only hurt when I first got them.

If you can make yourself keep the invisiligns in your mouth, then I would get those.

I had traditional braces that were clear... they were great. It just looked like you were wearing a retainer. My ortho told me I had to wear them for about 3 years but i ended up getting them off after about a year because my teeth moved so fast and i had them tightened every month and she really cranked them! My mouth always hurt really bad after that but it was all worth it... i get so many compliments on my smile now and i had some messsssed up teeth before!

My top teeth are only slightly crooked and my bottom front teeth are getting crooked. [Darn molars!!]

When I talk/laugh/etc my top teeth are the only ones that ever show. Since they're barely crooked, I'm thinking of going with invisalign for them, then clear/porcelain traditional braces for the bottom.

I had metal braces from 1996-2006.

They were sooo jacked up at first.
They are nice now though!

I think you should go with regular braces. You can get metal, or porcelain, which looks more natural (but is probably a lot more expensive).
