Hi there!

I was actually wondering if any of you have a housemate/roomates and afraid one day you'll wake up and all your MAC heaven will be gone? Yesterday I had a nightmare I woke up to go to work, walked into my bathroom like normal and EVERYTHING was gone. I woke up with tears in my eyes.. and was wondering if anyone has/had renter's insurance on their make up? and how that works.. i'm scared for life after that nightmare.. haha.. TIA

when i lived in an apartment, i had renters insurance for damage + contents or something like that. so the apartment itself was covered, and then my posessions were covered and i declared their value, just a sum. so like up to $25k which would be my furniture, computer, clothes, etc. i know you can add insurance for specific things like jewelry, so i imagine you could do it for makeup. i didnt have extra for any individual stuff.

You can have a renter's policy for the contents of your apartment, but you'd still have a deductible, probably no less than $500 is typical. So... yeah, you'd still be out-of-pocket quite a bit.. i'm not sure how big your collection is but if it were only a couple hundred dollars, then would it be worth it? Plus it has to be a covered peril, like fire, water, hurricane damage, theft, but sometimes insurance companies are kind of weird when it comes to theft/burglary Vs. what they call "mysterious disappearance". You would need to prove that it was indeed a burglary rather than just a roommate going through and taking your makeup. In order for mysterious disappearance to be covered it would require a separate policy (called a personal articles floater) and would cover any peril, basically.

Just be sure to clarify with whatever company you go with.. what's covered, for how much, and under which circumstances.

HTH.

It's best to have renter's insurance period. I had my house broken into and they took all my kids stuff @ Christmas..it was all covered..plus it is good for you to have pics of your stuff, write down serial numbers, and try to keep receipts for big purchases. I had a friend whose home (renting) burned up and she had no renter's insurance and the insurance the landlord had didn't cover her stuff just the home...so get it to be on the safeside..

I have renter's insurance - it's actually required by my lease. The deductible is high though so it's really only worth using if something major happens like a fire or a bunch of stuff is stolen. Like all insurance you'll probably (and hopefully) never have to use it. Even if my tv or computer was stolen it wouldn't be worth using the insurance because of the deductible. It's really just for the big things.

I just have a basic policy - don't cover jewelry or anything big because it'd cost extra to get that extra coverage and it's not very likely that all my jewelry/makeup/whatever of 1 type of item would be stolen/lost/damaged. And if just a few things were it's not worth replacing with insurance.
