Runied some shadows ::SOBS::

Hi everyone,

I ruined some of my shadows by depotting them using the oven method. A MAC MA told me to do this- and it ruined some of my shadows (Nehru, Fertile, Shale, Going Bananas, Bang on Blue etc). It's like I can't even get the product on my brush at all....some sort of film on them. I even try scraping them, but that wastes so much product. Any suggestions besides never using this method again??

TIA!!!

Try wrapping your finger in a tissue and use circular motions to wipe off the crust. Sorry that happened to you, that really bites.

yeah, we would't allow a customer to return or exchange them it that happened. unfortunately this happens with certain shadow finishes.

if customers ask me how to depot shadows, i tell them to bake them. i use this method to depot my shadows cause you can depot more than one at a time than you can flatironing them or using a candle. my fertile, bang on blue and going bananas, among others, did the same thing. i just scrape the tops of them with a spatula every once in awhile.

I agree.. If someone told you to do this then they should replace them!! Besides most places can exchange no problem.. that's why companies have 'damages' it shouldn't be a big deal.. I have even had some people drop they eyeshadow on the way out and bring it back for a new one. No big deal to me..

I just want to make them happy.

yeah.. I don't think so either, she'll probably say.. "you must did something wrong.."
But still, I think you should go with the e/s so she can see what you're talking about.. hopefully she'll do something.
That has to be F***** up, really specially, for going bananas since is LE and fertile.. =( but you know now..
You should really try the Straightner method, it works great!

Well, I sent back Nehru and Shale to the company. I told them they had a film on them and they said after inspection, they will send me a refund. I sure hope they do!
Thanks for all the help. You live and learn. Sighh..

At Macy's I've had to return many a products that people ruined themselves! Like I said, I had a girl drop hers on her way out right after she bought it, and I exchanged it for a new one. Most companies budget for this to happen and a lot of places, like Macy's and Nordstrom, exchange with almost no restrictions.. (granted the product is not completely GONE) working for Lauder for the past 5 years I say you should take it back. No big deal.

Do you think they would take back a depotted one without a receipt?

Sorry to hear about your LE shadows.
Yeah, next time use the flat iron method, works very well for me, not one destroyed e/s. You can do 2 at a time if you have a wider surface. Plus the labels come off so easily from the bottom of the pot so you can use it to stick to your magnets.

I used my straightening iron and have this same freakin issue. Now I just keep a little scraper (MAC spatula) in my pallette and when I wanna use them I just scrape a little up off the top and dab into it with my brush. They still apply fine and look just as good. But I think after this, back to the candle method for me even though its smellier.

Anything that puts heat onto the eyeshadow itself is dicey (flat iron, oven, toaster oven, etc). That's why I just use a clothes iron, the exposed eyeshadow is safely flipped away from the heat.

Wrap a bit of double-sided tape around your finger and firmly pat at the e/s. That usually helps to lift a film away better than scraping, as scraping can compact it more.

What if she used isopropyl alcohol to reset her shadows - like pigment setting? I've done that for some of mine that have broken up and for crusties.
