Setting powder?

Is that even what its called? LoL I'm looking for a finishing or setting powder, to apply after all of my makeup is done.

My question is:
-what does it actually do besides absorb oils? Does it make the makeup last longer? (I have a problem with applying concealer/foundation and then a few hours later it looks as though its wearing off)

what are your favorites kinds of setting powder? Loose or pressed? How do you apply it?

And last but not least, what brand should I get? I was using Cornsilk by Sally Hansen at one point, but I don't even know if thats the right stuff. Any recommendations for powder (drugstore or MAC or sephora or something...preferably drugstore

I really like L'Oreal Translucide. It's loose, and it sets my makeup well without making me look powdery.

I would highly recommend Fyrinnae - either their Rice Powder Primer (which is great for oily skin, and you can apply before foundation to get the smooth 'airbrushed' look, and/or apply it over to 'set'), or one of their Finishing Powders (Clear, Clear Oil Control, or Sunkissed).

They are the best product ive used as primer and finishing powder (the Rice Powder one especially), they last all day for me, dont dry out my skin/break me out and actually makes skin look amazing if you just dust it on without any foundation etc - your skin gets this natural 'glow' (not a sheen, shimmer or slick look). They're amazing quality, and cheap - though some orders can take a week or two (depends on size and what you order though). I love their mineral foundations better then any foundation ive ever used!
I cant rave enough about their facial products (foundations, blushes, primers etc). I havent tried their eyeshadows yet though (orders being processed).

Powder powder powder!!
Well yeah powder absorbs oil from the skin, it helps set the makeup base longer, and besides it gives a more subtle more natural look... as wolfsong said rice powder is the best, especially if you have oily skin or a shiny T-zone...
Clinique and Dior compact powder worked best with me, remember use the powder over the concealer, and always ALWAYS powder your cheeks before the blusher... Cause if you put blusher without powder it will absorb moist from your skin (from the foundation that is) and you will have clown cheeks - Surely you dont want that!!!
Enjoy

I have oily skin so I use MAC Blot pressed powder. It not only sets my makeup it keeps shine away. Loose powder can work too but I take mine with me for touch-ups during the day so pressed powder is easier. If you don't have oily skin you could probably get one that is not oil free. Just like when choosing a foundation consider your skin type when selecting a finishing powder.

so my question is....do you guys apply over your foundation or underneath? Could I do underneath my foundation AND over top?

basically the steps would go:
1) concealer
2)foundation
3)setting powder
4)blush/bronzer

or
1)concealer
2)setting powder
3) foundation
4)blush/bronzer???????

Setting powder can be used between layers (to soak up moisture from products/set each layer), and on top (benefits you most when used on top of makeup, as thats how you 'set' the makeup, and provide a finished appearance). The Rice Powder Primer is great for under makeup too, but i dont know if other traditional 'setting powders' will dry out and tighten skin if used on bare skin?
PS I love the fringe (your avatar photo)!

Ooh, Ooh, Ooh!! I just got some from Camera Ready Cosmetics. It's a huge amount and it was only $8. I use mine before putting on my blush.

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm leaning towards the rice powder primer...I've heard about this stuff, plus Fyrinnae was actually sold out for awhile because everyone was buying it. I'll look into all of the ones named though. Thanks guys
