Sexy photoshoot makeup

Hi everyone,

Just for reference I have quite big blue-grey eyes, long dark brown hair, and im nc30. A few days ago, I had a test shoot for FHM and Maxim and I just wasnt happy with my makeup at all.

I used- studiotech nc40 (i had done a fake bake self tan the night before), BB concealer, with TEclat on top in #2, select powder mac nc30 (hate the way nc35 looks on me)LM brow pencil in soft brunnette, benefit speed brow gel, then EL primer and sumptious mascara (lots of coats) for top and bottom lashes, MAC smoulder pencil on the inner rim, and mac fluidline in blacktrack on top, club e/s on lid and lined at the bottom softly (i wanted a smokey eye) nars deep throat blush, and the lip was a quite ''bright'' pink (it was one the makeup artist use i think maybelline) with gloss....

The makeup artist only did my lips, i did the rest of the makeup. I would REALLY appreciate any product recs u have for this kind of shoot (lots of lights) colours, textures etc...

Problems I had- 1. The blush hardly showed up at all, in most shots it didnt. I was looking for a sexy pink glow- i could hardly see it. 2. My face came out SO white even though the foundation has no spf- im thinking the problem is the powder, i know the powder was a lot lighter as it was nc30 BUT i have in the past used a darker nars loose powder (cant remember the name now) and i was still white- can anyone rec a good powder that will actually show its true colour in pics...I also wanted a bit of a glow- but i just got a flat look, also i dont think studiotech is the best as i got quite oily very quick...

The eyes- what should i be using? They looked very squinted and small- i dont think lining the inner rim was a good idea- also the top liner made my lids just disappear so it looked like i had no lids- or lashes- u just couldnt see them

can anyone rec any good mac false lashes or shu? should i even be using false lashes- i want it to look like i have full great lashes but not that im wearing false one.

Also what kind of e/s? Is highlighter a good idea like BB shimmerbrick? i would love more of a glow on my cheeks.

I want a sexy gorgeous makeup look, rather than trashy/pornstar/playboy

Any recs would be so welcome, also as im in london i cant get mufe here, (i know they have 1 place but they never have any good stock there) ardell, cinema secrets etc...

xx

im sorry you didn't like the way the pics came out
i'm not sure if this willl be helpfull but im gonna try my best :p.
eyes:
you are probably lining too thick the upper lid? ... that happened to me since i always heard that when you want that "sex kitten" look you should do a thick line.. but it really depends on the eye shape a have a small lid and bigg brow bone dont know how to explain it but what i do now is lining really really close to the lash line and make it really dark, then smoking it out more on the outer side.
wear fake lashes the best ones (more natural looking) and easier to apply are the ones that have an almost clear base.. you know not the ones that have a thiick black line at the roots of the fake lashes... i'll post a pic of me wearing wet and wild fake lashes you can find them at drugstores .
you are probably already doing this but make sure you are using a highlighter shadow on your brow bone that really makes a diference ! an also avoid anything too shimmery or frosty its not really good for photoshoots. you can use shimmery stuff on your inner lid not sure its called like that but hope you understand me :p
as a highlighter for my face i use wet and wild mega glo it comes in a round pot it's kinda glossy i use the lighter shade.. and if im going out at night i top it with any powder highlighter and it stays on me all night ..
for the powder i dont know sorry i just heard that mufe has a photofriendly one but like you said .. you cant get them

It might depend on the lighting also? Like if you're in soft, natural light, heavier makeup can look garish, but if you're in a studio with bright lights and such, it might not show up as well...

MUFE is good, if you can get it (the HD microfinish powder also-- it's translucent so you can order that w/o swatching maybe?), I've heard Ben Nye is good for shoots, Kevyn Aucoin...

Generally, stay awaaaay from shimmer for photoshoots. It tends to look really pretty in person, or maybe snapshots with your friends, but on for serious stuff it can look oily and weirdly textured (esp if you're shooting with good cameras that pick up a lot of detail).

If you want more of a "glow," try using a brighter blush with a lighter hand, no shimmer in it. From NARS, along the lines of Gilda (saturation-wise). Start with a little, layer it up as you need (maybe over a creme blush? I <3 Kevyn Aucion's Creamy Moist Glow for this). That'll give you a more natural flush, which looks glowy under harsher light.

Maybe you can use the lipstick as a reference point to gauge how much blush to add-- did that come out as vivid as it was in person? Paler?

If you absolutely do want shimmer, add that on with a separate product, but a shimmerbrick would be too glittery... you'd want something that'll give a subtle sheen like Dior Shimmer Star maybe, but even that sparingly.

Eyes: curl your lashes! Then mascara, then falsies (the individual lash kind, ideally, if you have the time/patience-- you can build it up and still have it look natural). Line upper inner rims definitely, but maybe skip on the bottom ones. The rest of your eye makeup may vary depending on what you want... but I'd still stay away from shimmery highlights for your browbone. (Again, really pretty in person, but can be weird on shoots.)

Keep in mind also, that the photog usually does some processing on the pics, and if they're good, they can bring out some of the vibrancy if it's lost under all the light.
