shadesticks!

so i'm a huge fan of shadesticks and i refuse to switch to paints! i've owned four different shadesticks before, Overcast, Taupographic, Beige-ing and Sharkskin. the only one i didn't like was Sharkskin (way too difficult to blend and really hard to work with IMO) my favourites by far has been Beige-ing and Overcast. so i was thinking about getting some different coloured ones (i haven't been wearing much makeup but i'm gonna have to start...school/work, i can't be seen there without makeup haha!) but i have some questions..

do shadesticks come in different finishes? i don't know why i like Overcast and Beige-ing so much more than Taupography, but they seemed to me like they were different finishes.

is it worth getting different coloured ones? (like Sea Me, Royal Hue, Shimmermint, etc) Beige-ing works well for pretty much everything because it's a neutral shade, like Overcast...and shadesticks are kind of expensive IMO so i don't want to spend the money if i don't need to. i know the colour payoff is better (like Paradisco over Mangomix or Gorgeous Gold over Corn), but is it SO much better that i can't live without these coloured ones if i'm going to use coloured e/s?

what are the essential shadesticks? (if i NEED the coloured ones) like, a red/pink one, an orangey one, a green, blue and purple one.

TIA

I love my shadesticks. Different ones do have different textures. Some are more glittery and are harder to blend and work with. So far the ones I tried like that were SilverBleu and Cedarrose. I hardly ever use them.

The ones I use the most are Penny and Mangomix. I wear a lot of warm eyeshadows, and these work so well as bases. I also get a lot of use out of Lucky Jade, Sea Me (this one is super bright), and Corn. I think the color payoff is so much better, that it is worth it to get them!

I managed to get most of mine at a CCO, so if you have access to one, it would save you some $$.

They are 30% off retail price. So for shadesticks, they are around $10 or $11.

I used to only use Beige-ing, but now I've amassed quite a variety of colours in shadesticks. Along with the recent release of the four small sized shadesticks, I have Beige-ing, Royal Hue (also one of the colours in the mini sets), Mangomix, Sea Me, and just yesterday I picked up Pink Couture.
I can't get over how much more vibrant they make my e/s-IMO, it's very worth it.
My absolute favourites are Mangomix, Sea Me, and Royal Hue. I'm hoping Pink Couture will also be a winner; I bought it with the hope that it'll make Beauty Sleep e/s actually show up on me.
To sum it up: Major love for Shadesticks!

Edit: How do you like Sharkskin s/s? I'm considering picking it up, and wanted some opinions.

I really liked how Gracious Me worked with my pinks.

I plan to get Beige-ing, Pink Couture and Sea Me soon. Maybe the mini set!

I have all the shade sticks.. and I would say it depends on what colors you wear.

I would say corn goes great with golden lemon
where as lucky jade would go great and make golders green pop
sea me for any blue or a color you want to bring the blue tones out more the base helps for that (same with any other color)
penny for copper sparkle
and these work with eyeshadows, the color of the base well make the colors over it pop in other ways, so you can never have to many different bases (from shade sticks, paints, to cream color bases -can go to other lines even-)

play with them and well you can never go wrong with mac.

Pink Couture was my all time fav, and then Beigeing, but I didn't like how the shadesticks tugged at my eyes. I also found that they gave me little bumps on my eyelids, because the shadesticks left a bit of residue behind cuz they were so hard to remove. Because of this, I switched over to paints about a year ago, and am in love with them. They are so easy to use, and so much more blendable then the shadesticks.

My favorite is Blurberry. It's great as a base for anything purple/brown with red undertones! (It's amazing with Hepcat & Mulch for expample).
And I think it also look great with a shade like Electra or on its own.

i love shadesticks, i wont use paints haha. beige-ing is my favorite. i use it for everything and i recently bought sharkskin but i only used it once so far and i also found it hard to work with. i'm going to be tryin it again but i may return it and get another color. but i would love to own every single shadestick color when i can afford to!

this is off-topic, but: according to a thread in the chopping-block, some of the shadesticks are going to be discontinued (i.e. mangomix & blurberry).

I started off with just Lucky Jade, now I have 7! I like Sea Me, Lucky Jade and Gracious Me best. Just like what some of the ladies here said, warming them on your fingers before applying it really helps make it blendable.

I use Beigeing every morning as a base, and since I wear a lot of purples I'm planning to start using Royal Hue as a base for those.

I have Sea Me as my only one and I use it with teal eyeshadows and the Blue Brown pigment which makes it look fabulous.

They DO irritate my eyelids though so while they do make eyeshadows pop, I'm not too sure if I should buy any more.

blast ther shadestick with a hair dryer for a few seconds. you want it soft, but NOT liquidy. watch carefully, it usually only takes a couple seconds, because the hair dryer gives such concentrated heat. when its warm, apply the shadestick to your index finger, do NOT apply straight to your lid. that's why people complain about shadesticks hurting, pulling, tugging, etc. applying to your finger not only makes the application pain-free, but also gives you MUCH better control of color placement, and allows two colors to be blended together well. the added heat of your finger makes the product easier to work with.

i use shadesticks daily, and own almost all of them. when i use them, i often have trouble getting my makeup OFF at night, even through a full day of work and class. shadesticks + UDPP literally makes eye make-up indestructible. my favorite is overcast, because everything shows up the best on a vivid white backdrop, and i use colors coordinating to my shadow/pigment when i have time. still, overcast is my fall back, because it's quick, and i end up wearing it the most. also, i do find different shadesticks have different textures, some are a tad easier to work with than others, but for the most part, if you use the hair dryer/finger application method, it doesn't really matter.
