I had to try both to figure out which one I liked best since everyone has their own preferences as to which is better (you can always exchange/return if you're not satisfied with one) and I chose the 217. The 224 is softer, fluffier and slightly bigger than the 217 and although it's really nice, I like how the 217's bristles are firmer/stiffer so it gives me a more controlled application and blending ability. do they throw the brushes away if you end up returning it?

it depends on how you want to use the brush.. the #224 (love it~!) is great for blending and lends itself easily into the crease for the windshield wiper technique, the #217 is also used for blending eyeshadows but it could be used to blend concealer too AAAND it could be used to apply cream products like Metal-X + Paint Pots - something that the 224 cant do =)

i prefer the 217 because the bristles are stiffer and it collects more colour. I use my 224 to apply the highlight because it's not that firm to apply shadow elsewhere.

i remember looking at brushes at Bloomingdale's and I see one with the return sticker on one of them. i don't think they throw them away. when you purchase a used one, you can always wash it when you get home.

I certainly prefer my 217. Like nunu said, the 224 is not firm enough and will not has as much color payoff as the 217 does.

the 217 has changed my life.

I'd say the 217 as well.

the 224 is great - especially when you want to create a light wash of colour on the lid or browbone, but the 217 is much more versatile and can be used for light application, blending, crease work and concealer.

the 224 is just a little too large to do any crease work on my eyes.

I say both..but if I had to get only one I would get the 217..it's very universal...so go for the 217..

I've only used the 224 and I love it for the smokey eye look and blending the crease, but it seems the 217 may be better to buy FIRST!

I agree with every word above! 224 is not firm enough, while the 217 is perfection and has made my makeup looks look better!

I was debating this same thing too, but I decided to go and buy the 217 today, and WOW. I love it so much, I'm not sure I even need to get the 224 as well.
