side effects and cymbalta

this may be a sore subject for some...i apologize in advance.

has anyone ever been on cymbalta and had bad emotional side effects? or known someone who did?

i've been on it for (i think) about a month and a half now. during this past month and a half, i've had several breakdowns. last night i had an extremely bad breakdown...the kind where you're just SOBBING, a mess, unable to control anything, about to feel like you're about to puke...oh god it was terrible. i couldn't go to school today.

then last night i had a TERRIBLE nightmare...which usually doesnt happen. i evidently was so scared, because when i woke up i was DRENCHED in sweat. absolutely drenched. i even thought that my dog (who was sleeping on my bed with me) had actually peed on me.

has anyone had nightmares? im curious as to whether it was a side effect or if it just happened.

and also, what are the chances that changing medicines (im going back to my psychiatrist tomorrow) will produce the same result? i've been on prozac, but prozac didn't do anything to me, good or bad.

I am sorry that this happened. Some medications cause weird side effects. i'd definately switch to something else since this is seems to be making things worse. Just talk to your doctor. I've been switched so many times, try to stay strong, there will be something that works you just have to find it, good luck!

You'll find a complete list of reported side effects for Cymbalta on the prescribing information fact sheet from the manufacturer in pdf format here. You need to go quite a long way down to get to them.

A lot of side effects that appear within the first few weeks of anti-depressants do disappear quite quickly but it may be a good idea to talk to your psychiatrist.

Good luck!

I don't know if I would reccomend or suggest changing so soon, it's only been 6 weeks and most of these types of medications take 3+ months. Also, there has studies lately that show those diagnosed with bi-polar depression who are on certain types of anti-depressants actually causes them to "cycle" faster. Now sure what your situation is, but I thought that information was very interesting.

cymbalta huh, isn't that for depression? well I haven't heard anything bad, your the first to say anything, I am so sorry that you are having terrible side effects, and nightmares can be scary when your on medicine like that, it makes you wonder what the heck the meds do to your brain. I take PROZAC and when I tried getting off of it, it was a terrible experience and I had withdrawl. I hope you feel better, I feel your pain girl.

Hi Hannah! I'm sorry to hear about this. However, I'm gonna have to agree w/Janice on this one; I think it's too soon to make any changes or adjustments with the Cymbalta. You haven't been on it all that long. I suggest maybe waiting it out and seeing how things progress (or digress, for that matter). I'm not on anti-depressants so I can't really say for sure what the side effects are, or if they cause nightmares. I have heard from other people I know that side effects can be problematic. For instance, sexual side effects and dry mouth are a few complaints I've heard. However, having a sense of well-being vs. those side effects outweighed the option of discontinuing the med. Everyone has a certain threshold limit on what is acceptable to them and what they are willing to give up to feel better. I hope next time we hear from you you are feeling in better spirits.

when I took cymbalta, I had intense nightmares, i hallucinated while awake, insane mood swings, suicidal urges, tremors, dizzy spells, nausea...

i absolutely hated it. zoloft + depakote + xanax finally worked for me.
