I washed my 182 the night I bought with brush cleaner and it smells really bad! I let it fully dry and it smelled fine but then it got really bad! Should I wash it again?

Wash it again, wring it out really well and fluff the bristles. Then set it on a folded towel with the bristles down and allow it to dry that way.

the samething happened to me when i first got the brush. i talked to one of the mas at mac and was told that it might smell a little because it's real goat (or another animal) hair and that if it was too stinky to bring it back for an exchange.

i went through this with my 150. there's a cosmetic company called japonesque, that makes brushes, sharpeners, etc. they have a brush cleaner that has a very distinct, citrus-y scent. it works as well as, if not better than, mac's brush cleaner, and comes in a convenient spray bottle. it'sabout $10 and i got mine at ulta. nordstrom's cosmetics departments sell the brand, also. the scent of the cleaner makes the brush hair smell a lot less noticeable.

I totally agree, when I bought mine it smelled like horse shit or sumthing like that, I washed it as soon as I got home, and the next morning after I airbrushed it, it smelled soooo good, and it was fluffier than when I bought it, atleast to me:p haha

Oh I love Japonesque brush cleaner and you're right, it works better than Mac's brush cleaner. You just spray it on and it cleans and the smell is very nice, it can be a bit strong at times, but it will remove any bad smells from your brushes. Ulta online sells a much larger bottle than is available in the store as well.

this it exactly what it is. the 182 is made from pure goat hair, so when it gets wet, it smells like a wet goat. there's nothing wrong with the brush. all the 182s (and other goat hair brushes) will smell like this to some extent when they get wet.

I guess i'm the only one that likes the smell! and I love the smell of a brand, new MAC brush.. it has a very specific, almost "new car" smell.

the smell doesn't bother me either. most of disappears when it dries, and i hardly notice it when i use the brush.
