so dang effin' pissed

i'm so damn pissed off right now. this is all involving work, which for me is at a grocery store (yes, one of the ready to strike ones) and because of all this talk of strike, things right now are especially tense between the different levels of employees. but i'm going to start my story off with a little background:

let's call this girl "emily." she's a combo, which means she's a checker some days and a box girl other days. i'm a box girl, all the time. apparently, some things about "emily" were written on the bathroom walls in the women's room. as were some things about a guy at work. she told everyone i wrote the things about said guy, which nobody believed because he and i are very close and they all know it. so then she starts telling everyone i wrote these nasty things about her. and this was her story "i asked kim if she did it and she looks at me and goes 'yeah, what are you gonna do about it?'" which upset me because i don't like being accused of something i didn't do. so this guy i mentioned, he countered this everytime he heard it so it's not like anyone really believed her anyway, but it's just upsetting how much mud she was slinging on my name. constantly. so i told my supervisor that it was making me uncomfortable and word got to the district manager that my preformance was suffering because of this, so he told my supervisor to get it fixed. "emily" talked to my supervisor and said that when she'd ask me to do something, i'd just look at her and say "fuck you," and suggested i be fired for it. so the supervisor brought us both into the office and tried to fix everything, and she lied to him. he caught her in the lie so that pretty much showed her true colours and it hasn't been much of a problem since.

here's where it gets really fun, though.

"emily" sells drugs. she's sold them to ex employees and current employees as well. she's come to work hung over more times than i can even count, and i've watched her tell customers about her wild ways and how she hates coming to work hung over, but you know "she's gotta pay the bills one way or another." she'll constantly tell other employees that she'll cover their shift, and then she won't show up. she comes to work late most of the time and when she doesn't come to work, she doesn't call in. when she's on as a box girl, she refuses to clear the lot of shopping carts (leaving the parking lot full of them for the next clerk to clear which is a big no-no.) BUT! she's been spending some alone time (catch my drift?) with the manager and now they're talking about promoting her to supervisor! "emily" who has been there for a total of 6 months and has a horrible work history (when they brought the two of us into the office, that was her 7th time for the same thing in 4 months) they're promoting while there are checkers how have been there for years and never missed a day, yet they won't promote them.

and one of my other supervisors, who used to be our manager's "special lady friend" is now pissed off at these developments and is taking it out on us box girls.

it's like a dang soap opera only worse because i'm living it. it's so frustrating. and it's not like a new job is really easy to find here either, it's just...UGH!

sorry, i know it was long. and kind of pointless. i'm not really sure what i'm looking for in response to this but i just had to rant. i'm so upset over all this stuff.

Sounds like the place has really poor work ethics. Maybe start looking for a new job while you're still at this place...

There is no one higher than the named people who you can complain to? The fact that Emily is so free speaking of her antics should guarantee her getting fired. Most grocery stores want to be family-friendly, and this girl does not seem to be that.

You also could anonymously tip off the police about this girl's drug dealing.

Hey I remember something like this when I worked at Home Depot! A job wasn't readily available for me either but I came home every night literally sobbing. I had to FORCE Myself to get out of bed to go to work by telling myself- it's only 8 hours.....

Seriously- I kid you not. Walk.

Leave. Seriously. No job is worth this load of b.s. After you walk- go call the head of the company and tell them about Emily and the supervisor, then tip the police off about Emily's drug dealing and while you are at it look for a new job. I know things are hard to come by now but seriously- Get out of that job. You think I'm kidding you don't you? Well I'm not. And I will tell you things are only going to get worse. There is no other choice but to walk.

i never even thought of telling the police about her drug dealing. but i'm sure that everyone else in the store that works the front end would be more than willing to talk to the cops because every single one of them said "we gotta get her fired before they promote her or we'll never get rid of her," when we all heard about the promotion.

Girl, your in So Cal, jobs are SOOOOO easy to get! And you can get lots of them that dont have as much drama! I'm not sure what your situation is, student or whatever, as a lot of time time is a big factor when it comes to finding availible work hours...

But there really isn't any point in working at an workplace thats as poisonous as that. You dont have to quit, but you could easily throw around applications, (even to other grochery stores if you like that type of work). The fact that your activly seeking new employment will go a long ways towards making your current job a lot more tolerable.

CA is an at will employment state. Which means you can quit whenever, and wherever you want to at any time. So as soon as you find a better job, you can inform your manager (and maybe the person above him) that your leaving, and WHY your leaving. This way you can not only resolve for yourself, all the drama and BS that you've been dealing with, but also remove yourself from the situation so you dont have to deal with the aftermath.

And you can start your new job, drama free.

Work isn't supposed to be something you dread when you have to get up for it, or when you know your shift is comming up. I used to think that way, until I got a job that I LOVED. I can't wait to get to work now, and it makes working 8 hours a day here so much nicer, than when I hated my jobs.

You deserve that, no one should work in a bad environment.

Yeh HR is a great place to start. Especially since she's selling drugs to the staff. They will bend over backwards to prevent a lawsuit in the wings ;p
