SOS - mascara?!?!?!

i'm asian, have short lashes. not thin nor thick hairs so i guess thickness falls somewhere in the middle. maybelline great lash was never so great for me. loreal volume shocking - i can't stand having to use the primer because sometimes i don't cover it up with the mascara well and you can see some white coating on my lashes. can we say i need an idiot-proof mascara? tried MAC zoom lash - eh. i'm currently using max factor lash perfection - nice for an almost nautral but with a little more length and no clumps look......but i really want that "hmmm...are you wearing fake lashes?" without the fake lashes (don't really like how falsies feel on)

i know different mascaras work well on different lashes. i mean, you could have pretty long thick lashes and something like maybelline great lash works wonders for you but diorshow might clump on you. or you could have ultra thin lashes and diorshow works well.

i've gotten a few suggestions - try Loreal Voluminous. I think I might want to try the Loreal Architech - it's suppose to curl, lengthen and thicken. i would prefer drugstore, but would like to hear recommendations for dept store, too. oh yeah, and would you recommend the typical straigh brush or curl brush? (my lashes are stick straight, but i use shu umera curler - love that tool!)

any short lashed gal out there find a miracle mascara yet? thanks!

the shu uemera curler is the bomb for straight asian lashes, I love that too!
My HG mascara is diorshow - definitely give that a try, it's the best mascara I've even used and it does a fantastic job at giving doll-like false looking lashes (it curls, volumizes, thickens and lengthens)

I have asian lashes, too! XD

Primers never worked for me. I hold the curl (after curling, of course) with Loreals Waterproof Panoramic Curl. Afterwards, I put as many coats of my favorite mascara on top. Works wonderfully.

Not trying to burst your bubble but to be perfectly honest, there is no "miracle mascara". A great mascara will make your lashes look better, define your eyes and stay put. But in terms of adding half an inch or quarter of an inch to short lashes or make twigs look like bushes it's not going to happen. Save the hundreds of dollars spent looking for the miracle mascara and just get falsies

However, there are a few things that may help in getting your lashes to look better:

1. A good curler makes all the difference, over curl if you have to because some mascaras have a tendency to straight the curls.

2. I've heard Shiseido makes an AWESOME mascara base. It apparently isn't visible if you don't cover it completely with mascara because it's grey in colour. I've heard rave reviews on this one, you might want to check it out.

3. Line the upper waterline(the root of your lashes) with black e/l it will instantly create thicker looking lashes.

im asian with short lashes also. i think blinc kiss me mascara is great for lengthening without primer! and whats so cool is that its waterproof to a certain extent, but easy to remove. all you have to do is rub your lashes with water. and i know we're not supposed to curl our lashes after mascara, but with blinc you can bc it holds your lashes by making a "tube" (i know it sounds weird). it also is not a soft lashed mascara so it wont get all icky feeling after curling. also, you buy it at sephora.. so if you dont like it, you can return it (even if youve tested it out!)

ok , i gave Loreal 3D Architech a try - one eye got clumpy after the 2nd coat....so i wiped off all the excess mascara off the wand and went for the other eye - a bit better, but as usual, the curl went flat after the 2nd coat....so i waited till it dried a bit and curled again. looks much longer than with my MF Lash Perfection. but it did feel rather dry so i'm predicting flakes and my lashes will probably dry out and fall out faster.

good thing the drugstore will take returns. will try the loreal volumininous.

thanks lvgz about sephora's return policy. i wished makeup companies would make their tester mascara wands the same as their mascara tubes so that i could get a better idea how the actual mascara and wand would work for my lashes - that whay i wouldn't have to do the buy and try method. i

've never heard of blinc before...i'll go look for it on my next shopping trip. i'll also check out that shishedo primer and diorshow, too.

thanks so much for the advice.

What works for me is NYX's Doll Eye mascara. I have all three formulas (Long Lash, Volume, and Waterproof). I find all of them useful, although I tend to go for the waterproof if I don't feel like putting on my Shiseido mascara base.

You might wanna try Shiseido mascara base. It's gray, so it's much easier for black mascara to cover it.

Anyway, none of the NYX Doll Eye mascaras have clumped on me, but stuff like Zoom Lash did. Badly.

asian lashes are tragic

whoever invented the eyelash curler *bows at your feet*... wouldnt be that surprised if they were asian hahaha but i doubt that

Anyways... i have Diorshow and i find it heavy and weighs my lashes down and that it does absolutely nothing for holding curls. Also smells a bit funny and smudges. i use Shiseido Mascara Base and im liking it. It comes out grey and holds the curl well.... i just find that with the brush, it sometimes leaves chunks o_O but that might be because i do it weird haha

i'm still searching for a good mascara... i think i might try CoverGirls Lash Exact or MaxFactors Masterpiece. i'm using Bourjois Yes To Volume at the moment... which isnt that bad but aint that great either.

I find either you use a waterproof mascara to hold the curl then cover with coats of mascara that volume and lengthen, OR shiseido mascara base ( greyish) then diorshow, seperate ,wait to dry, curl again, then another coat of diorshow and I'm chinese, my lashes are as short as they come

took the Loreal Architech back and got Voluminous instead. a little tricky for me since i was getting some on my eyes which means i could mess up my eyeshadow in this process. anyhow, i curled lashes with shu umera then i applied 1 coat - looks ok, curl still there. combed out the lashes a little with my tester mascara wand (i ask the MAs if i can a couple, and then throw these out as needed and then ask for new ones when i run out...hehehe.) then i applies a 2nd coat. combed a little. ok, lashes went a little flat. so i waited til it was dry and then curled - omg - they do look longer. is this my new HG masacara - not sure. still looking just in case there's something better.

i also saw Revlon 3D Extreme mascara which is a gel and a funky designed comb - wondering if that's "light" enough that my curl won't go flat....but i saw on MUA that the reviews are very mixed. anyone here try that one yet?

I just started using Voluminous, as well. I am always on the quest to find the perfect mascara--if it exists. I have long and thin lashes that straighten when I put on regular mascara.

I have the Voluminous in waterproof and it really gives me a nice set of lashes. I wipe all of the excess on the rim of the tube then put on a couple coats and this has worked wonders for me.

yeah, i think i will have to give the waterproof a try - i'm noticing that i get some "raccoon" eyes after a few hours.

ok, i pulled out the Loreal Voluminous Carbon Black after a week. it definitely gives me longer lashes (i think a bit longer that DiorShow Unlimited)

but again, by the evening i have dark smudges under my eyes.

i'm not even wearing any mascara on the bottom lashes - only the top - but i still get the smudges.

any tips on how to avoid this? tia!

I am 100% addicted to Maybelline Lash Stylist ... I usually use 2 mascaras, and the other one varies (right now it's Cover Girl Volume Exact, but I've used a million different ones) but Lash Stylist is my staple. I had to go buy it for my mama cause she was like "gosh how do you make your lashes look so amazing?!" ... hahaha.

Worth a try! It's only $6. The brush is awesome and I just apply a million layers. If I'm not wearing mascara I look like I have no lashes, and this stuff is awesome!
