Spending my MAC E-gift card

So for christmas I got another MAC card...but this time it was an e-card. Meaning I can only spend it online. Which is okay...but since I'm new to MAC, I don't want to buy the wrong shades.

I have a MAC near me and I'm interested in having a certain artist there do my makeup. So I'm not really sure what i should do...should I go to him and try on some things, buy some stuff in the store, and then save the rest to buy online? Or should I just buy "safe" things online (fluidline, makeup remover, etc.)??

Just a little confused lol. Thanks guys

If it was me i would do both haha, i normally look on here at peoples fotds etc to get an idea of the colours im after and then order them online, i feel more relaxed on the net and less harrassed xxx

for me, I only buy mascara, fluidlines, paintpots, pigments, and eyeshadows online (oh and those new accessories like travel jars)--oh and foundation if I like the one I have (this is my first foundation so I'm going to get matched in SFF to try a different formula so that's in store for me). But I definitely go in store to check out lipsticks, brushes (lol my personal fav is getting the brush in store, making sure its all good vs some online orders I've heard some bristles may be wonky).

Have fun spending it!!

If you already have an idea of some color shades you want, then I think its safe to buy eyeshadows or pigments online. I'm sure you've checked out the FOTD & swatch subforums & know there are some you definitely want

But if you are looking for foundation/concealer or unsure how a color will look on you, then I would go into the store to have an MA test it out on you.

I would buy my eyeshadows online but I need the pan form and I can't get those online. so the only thing I'm coming up with is fluidline, shadestick, and makeup remover lol

I'd go and play a little at the MAC store, then buy the colors online that you like...like some of those lip colors you were looking at. I'm sure you don't have to spend your e-gift card all at once...you might think about saving it for some of the stuff that comes out later this year!!

lol I know! I'm torn right now because I know that the N collection is coming soon and Fafi and Heatherette...but I don't know if I should save the card for that, because I know that I'm going to have to go in the store and see what looks good...and by February and March--I'm just going to buy the stuff with my own money. Especially since Fafi comes out 2 days before my birthday.

I just figured the gift cards were going to be what helps me build my collection. And I'd spend my own money on the fun collections later this year.

I would reccomend you go to the shop and look at everything you are intrested in eg. lipsticks, glosses, shadesticks, blushes....Purchase these online. However, the eyeshadows get them from the store itself because it's cheaper getting them in a pan.

Ooh, you know me so well. lol...I was going to put it in my cart online, but I think when I go to MAC I'm going to try it on and make sure its something I have to have first.

LoL me too. I only bought one from MAC (Carbon) and bought 1 from specktra. I got 2 palettes so I'm slowly working on filling them up. It makes so much more sense to buy the shadows in a pan

lol, thats what I'm thinkin! Everyone says its perfect so I should just get it. But I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I've made my mind up. Things I need to try on (lipsticks, glosses, ccb, eyeshadows in pans) I'm going to try on and buy at MAC. Stuff like fluidline, shadestick and MAC wipes, I will be purchasing online. Thanks guys for all of your help!

I'm glad you made the decision!

Because the eyeshadow swatches on the website do not give justice to how the colours are in real life. Let us know what you buy. BTW im nc43 and i <3 hug me lipstick i treat it as my everyday lipstick!
