SPF lotion versus Sunblock?

I have been using Olay SPF 15 daily moisturizer for sometime. Now I am wondering if using SPF moisturizer may not be as effective (sun protection) as using a pure sun block PLUS a separate regular moisturizer? I prefer the convenience of using a combined product, yet does anyone know if the SPF protective factor lessens in moisturizer formula? Thanks!

What is your favorite SPF moisturizer?

I don't think there is a difference, if the lotion says spf 15 it should be same as using an spf 15 sunscreen....

yeah, same thing. in the US, they're trying to steer away from using the term "sunblock" because it sounds misleading - as if it blocks out all the damaging rays. i still see some stuff labeled sunblock, but i think it's suppose to only have spf written on there, instead of sunblock.

I'm scared that my daytime moisturizer spf is not photostable, so I apply a photostable sunscreen on top of that.
I have skin that freckles. I don't like freckles too much, not that freckles are bad.

Thanks! I now switched from SPF 15 Olay moisturizer to SPF 30. So far so good. SPF 30 is a little thicker but has not yet caused break-outs. I like the convenience of applying only one product.

A moisturizer with spf will provide you with the same protection as an spf sunscreen, but you have to be sure that no matter what product you're using, you're applying enough of it (most likely with a moisturizer, you aren't). You need to use 1/2 tsp. for your face and neck combined.

The SPF is the same yes, but remember that you DO need to reapply sun protection products throughout the day. The lower the protection, the more often you need to reapply, in generaly. Also, some formulas aren't as stable in sunlight and break down faster, making re-application more frequent. That, combined with the amount of product you need to get proper coverage, you're better off using a moisturizer AND sun protection product.

Remember, you only get one skin. If you don't take care of it, later on there may be nothing you can do. Skin cancer is a very real and dangerous thing. Better off protecting your skin now.

Personally for my own skin, I don't see the need to wear an spf30 for everyday wear. I have a moisturizer that has spf10 in it and since I work in an office, I don't spend that much time outside. Unless it's the weekend, and I plan to spend a lot of time outside, I don't use a very high spf, it's not necessary for me. I don't like how greasy spf makes my face.

I really don't mean to argue with you, but incidental sun exposure really adds up. The car ride to work, popping out for a coffee, etc. Also, windows let in sunlight and although it's not enough to get a sunburn, it's enough to age and damage skin.
