I wrote this on the Vogue forums and thought it might be useful here as well - Spring/Summer make-up trends for this season.

Spring/Summer is going to be pretty, girls! The dark eye/bronzer/beige lip combo is seriously dead in the water and I, for one, couldn't be happier.
The pink/green subtrend is being pushed by the Pat McGrath designed collection for Max Factor, which is really gorgeous. I don't think it'll be a major eye design this season, but you'll see that combo around here and there. I've already created a version of it in a recent FOTD.

Lips: either strong raspberry lips that are slightly blotted and kissed off (MAC 'Rebel' blots down to a sexy plummy-rose stain), or really pretty soft pink lips with a hint of pearl (MAC 'Lustering' and 'Bombshell' lipsticks, MAC Lipgelee in 'Cellopink'). Stains and tinted balms are back, so check out MAC Lip Conditioner pots in 'Petting Pink' or 'Fuchsia Fix'. Eyes: smudgy and sexy daytime rockstar. Lids are neutral (MAC 'Shroom') with creases picked out in cute shades of sheer hot pink (MAC 'Budding Beauty' is perfect for this if the counter still has it in stock), brows are natrual but groomed (plucked medium thickness and tinted). Smudge MAC 'Blacktrack' Fluidline into the upper and lower lashlines with 209 brush, soften off. Eyeliner isn't winged, the look is for soft, rounded and weathered liner that's still quite sassy. Mascara is black or blue-black on overcurled lashes. For nighttime, skip the pink crease and use MAC 'Mythology' or 'Amber Lights' blended off from the upper and lower lashline with plenty of gel eyeliner. Face: Bronzer is out (thank god!), gold and copper are in! Foundation is sheer, soft neutral-pink creme blushes on the apples of the cheek, with a soft sweeping of gold powder on the cheekbones, bridge of nose and chin. Those are the major trends, but there is also subtrends going around that use pink and green on the eyes, or touching on super frosty pink eyeshadow like MAC 'Swish'. Mostly it's all about the sexy, smouldery eyeliner (think Lilly Allen rather than the Veronicas), the fresh nude face and the pretty pink lip. |
