Stubborn E/S

Once in a while I'll come across a pot of e/s that won't distribute properly, on the brush or across my skin. I end up having to take a bobby pin and scratch across the top to create a loose powder.

Has anyone else ever encountered this and what could I do to correct it short of breaking it up, if anything?

It's usually to the manufacturers having a faulty production batch (ingredients not mixed properly, undercooked, overcooked) or the user leaving the eyeshadow in a steamy bathroom, near a heat source, in dry airconditioning, etc. Eyeshadows are a lot more sensitive than people expect them to be.

There's some talk about it here.

Either keep scraping it as you need it, or grind it with a pestle and make a loose powder shadow. Usually the second way is the most effective.

Sometimes it's only the top layer. In the past, I've just rubbed a kleenex across the top with pressure from my finger and it goes away.

Since investing so much into the higher end cosmetics, I've broken several bad make-up habits, such as leaving it in the bathroom or using my fingers (and leaving oily residue) for application. But I still end up with the oddball e/s that won't cooperate.

I have the same problem with Steamy. I find it applies better with a sponge applicator rather than a brush.

my vellum was like that, and no matter how much i scraped it was like that ALL THE WAY THROUGH! i scraped it so much it broke, so i just crushed it up into a loose powder, and that works well! i just put it in a sample jar so it doesnt spill.
