Hey everyone, i just have a question in reguards to MAC's shades.

Last night i tried a friend's Studio Fix (the powder one if there is a diff one) and i really like the texture and coverage. It was night time and the lighting in her bedroom wasnt good, but she had NC40 which seemed to be a good match on me. plus i used the little sponge that comes with it.
But, i have more yellow toned skinned and not pink, and from what i understand NC is more for pink undertones and NW for more yellow undertones, right?
So if NC 40 looked good would i order NW 40 and it be the same darkness/lightness, just with different undertone color??

Also, im a Sephora addict, so i could actually go there and try on their powders, but is there a brand comparable to MAC's studi fix that isnt as pricey???

TIA ladies!!!!!

If you have yellow undertones then you should be either NC or C. I have yellow undertones and I wear C3 or C4 depending on the time of year. NW won't be for people who have pink undertones. So I would say that if your friends NC40 worked for you that that is probably about right. If you have a MAC counter near you I would still go there and get one of the MUA's to try them on you just to make sure you get the exact shade for you. Hope that helps a little.

My skin is more neutral to slightly yellowish and I use NC. In my experience from studio fix fluid NC15 is lighter than NW15 but I'm not sure if it's the same with the compact.

I don't use studio fix but Clinique's clarifying powder makeup is good and I think it's cheaper in the US than MAC? I'm not positive on that but I think it is.

But I would really recommend going there in person because if your foundation shade is off it just throws off the rest of your makeup IMO.

I agree. I shoudl go but the CLOSEST MAC counter is over an hour away so it isnt reall feesibly (sp) for me.

I got the C's and W's mixed up, so i do think im a NC or C.

Is there a HUGE differnce between NC 40 and NC 42???? Because the NC40 seemed to match my face really good, but my face is like a shade lighter then my neck and rest of my body, so should i go up just alittle to the NC 42?

With darker skin colours it's better to go a bit darker if you can't find your shade than lighter because then at least you won't look ashy. I'd stick to the NC40 though if that's a good shade for your face.

I also think that you should stay with NC40. I have an NC42 that I got because I went to Mexico and I was really dark. I found the NC42 to quite a bit darker.

Awesome!!!

Also, for applying, is the 187 a good brush? ive been dying to buy this brush but dont have an excuse to lol.
And what about the 188? is it just as good just a smaller head? I prefer medium-full covergae.

I wouldn't get the 187 for the studio fix if you want a fuller coverage. But there are sooo many other good reasons to get the 187 though, I'd still get it anyway but not for the studio fix. The 188 is just a smaller version of the 187 and wouldn't give you full coverage either. But they're great for liquid foundation and powder and cream blushes and highlighters.

I'd get the 109 or the 182 for that. I have the 182 and I can get medium to full coverage with any of my powder foundations but I don't own studio fix. I don't have the 109 but there was a thread with lots of positive things about the 109 recently for foundation so maybe you could try that. The 180 is good too.

Thanks so much for the reply.
I just ordered the 187 dupe from coatsal scents. i figured ill give the cheapy version a try and maybe shell out the money for the REAL DEAL! lol but the 40 something bucks plkus shipping it out of my budget right now.

I actually prefer to use the sponge-y thing but i know ive heard great things about the 187 and the finish it gives.

Thanks so much for the replky again!!!

i ended up orderign the NC40 also

Awesome!!!

always go with the color that matches your face, even if its lighter than your neck and body. that's what bronzer is for-for adding a bit of darker color.
